I'd say in many circumstances they help a lot, not a little. A rider going from riding only with ABS/ASR to something without is most at risk. For instance I always tell my wife to use both brakes all the time as I will only let her ride something with ABS/ASR. Only time to she needs to use just the rear is when using it to control the bike for slow speed maneuvers. I don't see her ever diving the nose to compress the front shocks or trail braking.

... right but it is the emergency that makes you make mistakes, the panic causes lack of mental lucidity ... for that we should train ourselves to brake in an emergency

Thinking back to when BMW had a pro rider demonstrate the early ABS brakes coming out on a MC for the first time. They were applied in a high speed straight away skid before a bunch of journalist as I recall. No telling how many lives ABS has saved.

Everytime I read the title of this thread I think of Jimmy Buffett's "Barefoot children in the rain"

interesting to hear others opinions. I will not ride if rain is predicted, but living in the Chicago area, the weather predictions are usually not great. I rode yesterday, no rain was predicted. So before I was set to ride home we had a thunder storm. I waited a bit and the thunder stopped, so was able to ride home in some rain, not horrible but not what I like to do. Generally though I do like to avoid the rain, but the longer I ride, the more times I end up in the rain, so I will deal with it, changing how I ride, but still like to avoid it.
thanks for all the info larry |

With my GTS, I don't mind riding i the rain, but only with full face helmet.
My classic is not seeing any rain though, not even wet streets |
