Presume it is bulb related - or at least I should check that first. Anyone know how I access it or what bulbs it may take?

Yes there are bulbs at least on an LXV but you'll have to take the whole thing apart. But it could be the sender unit/switch in the tank. Better to use miles on the speedo and learn how far you can go on a tankful.
