I hve a GIVI 350 topcase on my GTS 250 and was wondering what the miaximum load weight is for the rack with the case loaded. This has been a source of discussion on ScooterDiva.com as some of the others are wondering too. Anybody know?

The max load on the rack is 6 kg, which is 13.2 lb. Seems light given the beefyness of the rack, but you have to allow for those hard bumps on the road. Subtract the weight of the topcase from 13.2 lb, and that's your max capacity in the case. If you're sure the road will be smooth, you could go a bit over.

I've stuffed two dozen bottles of beer in my top case with no ill effects to the rack or to the handling at speeds in excess of 70 mph. Not that I'm recommending that sort of behavior, but the factory specs weigh heavily on the cautious side in my opinion. Have you ever seen pictures of scooters from emerging countries? The loads they carry on them are staggering!!

The safety factor is probably as beefy as the rack. Judgement is key...

I asked a similar question a while ago and got some funny, smart-ass answers (see 6 Kg/13 lbs. -- Really?).

I've added a GIVI E370 topcase since then and I've loaded it well beyond the limits they give you, even at freeway speeds with no problem... so far so good. I agree with Cincinnati John, "Judgement is key..."

At Amerivespa this summer I noticed GTS's with struts between the luggage rack and the license bracket to help better support the rack. Anybody know where those were made?

Hmm.. but the license plate bracket is mounted to the plastic rear mudguard. I can't see this offfering too much support.. Maybe somehow attached to a rear crashbar setup?

Maybe it was to keep the plate bracket from vibrating...
