The rust all got killed I believe and I just cleaned it up smooth with a Scotch-Brite pad then painted over it. So far, so good.

I'd be very hesitant to use mineral oil for clean up before painting, unless an oil based paint will be applied.

Just relaying what the manufacturer says is all.

And luckily for me I'm not repainting!

It's been a while and I kind of got used to riding two tone, it always fires right up, goes fast and runs like a top! But that unplanned two tone was looking pretty ragged and so was nagging me to finish up getting the rest of the yellow off to see what's underneath. I still need to cut & polish, but now many hours later most all of that ugly house paint is finally gone.

Mixed results and I can see why somebody wanted to cover it up. However I will continue as planned, rub out the original paint and do some touchup where I must, matching the white best I can. Made easier in that I will not be shooting for perfection, just reasonable preservation and a good look from ten feet away!

Wow hats off to you. I think it looks bad ass. After you cut and polish… Id just slather on some owatrol to the bare metal spots and let that worn ass patina settle in. Well done sir!!!!

Very nice! I'm with Birdsnest. Wipe the rust with Ospho, then wax and oil and ride baby, ride! It looks badass.

Agreed. I'm not normally Team Patina, but if you're going to do it, that'll be doing it right.

Could always do two tone with shiny new biancospino on the cowls and fender and patina on the rest.

Sorry, but a little too much bare metal for me to leave it as is. I'm trying some white primer for now to camouflage it while I rub out the good paint that it has and try to find best match.

Wet sanding a few places now. The white is coming back fast with a little water and 1200 grit. I'll prime the bare spots then try rubbing compound next to see how it blends.

These people sell the paint code in a spray can, but it's two stage.

Meanwhile, I'm plodding along using the primer to camouflage the worst of the owies. I just can't be looking at big patches of bare metal when so much of the paint looks nice. We'll see how it goes... I could repaint both cowls, the mudguard and horncast I suppose.

It's kind of a pain to get the color. I just recently found the same color.

This place says they will do it from a paint code, but they don't let you choose from a list, and it's kind of obscure.

I found some Honda 'Taffeta White' that is close but no perfect match. But it will have to do for now and I've gotten in line w/ my auto body shop buddy to mix me some custom paint he says will match the original when he gets caught up.

It's probably closer to the original color than you think! the yellow remnants look almost like faded paint

The color really changed a lot depending on conditions.

These two bikes were both the same paint code, but one was much more yellow.
