Hi Guys

Got 4 days to spend in Toronto next week.
I thought I would get away from the cold wild Scottish weather.
Any must see must do?

So far my research has found
Beer is expensive, not as bad as Vancouver though.
Ice hockey game is expensive
Transport no so much.

Must have food?

Well firstly commiserations for having to spend 4 days in what locals believe to be the centre of the universe. Razz emoticon

Escaping the cold Scottish weather for the same cold weather but in Canada. No it is not a dry cold, not in October. Razz emoticon

It's a big place so depends where you will be.

- The Landing Strip out by the airport. Take a tie. Just so you can find out how cheap beer downtown is. Razz emoticon

- Don't like hockey. There is always curling to make you feel at home. They have lots of beer in those clubs. Clown emoticon But there are two home games next week.

- Go up the CN tower if you must.

- Vespa Toronto West is not far out of town.

- The current NBA champions The Raptors schedule sadly doesn't fit your itinerary.

- No racing at Mosport.

Sadly you will be in the wrong city for Poutin. It's like upmarket Glaswegian food

Welcome! Welcome! Welcome!

Toronto is beautiful! Great museums. amazing ethnicity for foods from the world. If you like curries, there is a HUGE East and West Indian population so you can get relatively inexpensive food depending on the part of town you are in. The downtown chip wagons are pretty cheap too.

Check out the CN Tower for a tall, tall, structure. Perhaps Niagara Falls might be a thing for you too?

Big theatre city for plays, musical productions and such. So much going on. Toronto is like NYC, turned down a notch and with nice people.

Why does this sound tightfisted?
Is this typical of all Scots ?

Was very close to Raasay two weeks ago. We went up to Ullapool for the Loopallu festival.

This is taken from big sands in wester ross Raasay is just behind the hills marked with the arrow. If you do come, don't come in July (wet) May June are the best months to come to Scotland.

If you want a flavour you can look at my wee dugs website
httpspoppysocks.co.uk ( I should have the search function working by tomorrow, I screwed the site up at the weekend doah!)

Just don't like paying £8 for a beer that costs 80p
To me any more than 100% mark up is taking the pi$$
Oh, and I drink a LOT of beer.

In Glasgow there are places that charge £5 a pint. The pubs I go to it more like £2 - £3

So
Weather - same as Glasgow
Food - Upmarket Glaswegian
Locals - Friendly
If it wasn't for the beer prices and no football teams it sounds like home!

Should be a nice wee change

We were in Scotland least May after taking a cruise ship over to Southampton. We did a lovely Speyside whisky tour from Edinburgh before we went to Raasay but we were only there overnight. So my husband wants to go back and spend a bit more time on Raasay and Skye. We've booked another for next April. Shop around and you can get some cheap transatlantic cruses (paid $506pp including tax from Florida to Barcelona a couple years ago)

It was actually warmer and sunnier in Scotland while we were there last May than it was in Lisbon. That was our first time in Glasgow though we had been in Edinburgh before.

According to my research beer in a pub in Scotland (one of the most expensive places, apparently) is between GBP 3.95 and 5.50.

From same site Toronto beer is GBP 2.20 to 3.6. Cheaper than Scotland.

Your Cdn $8 beer is GBP 4.80

Don't go up the CN tower that is GBP 17

cdwise If you do get back to that part of the world you should take in Mull. I think it is the prettiest of the west coast islands

waspmike I'm staying in a place called Yorkville which looks about the same distance to the city centre as Shawlands (where I live) is to Glasgow city centre.

In my local (not a dive by the way) its £2.35 for a pint of Tennents Lager. So I will soon find out (Sunday) if its similar.

Last Question and probably the most controversial... What's Toronto's best Local Lager?

cheers

Super Restaurants
My limited visits to Canada, (Quebec, Vancouver, Toronto) resulted
in finding super restaurants. Perhaps my expectations were low, but the
food was great.

I have not been as tightfisted in my older years (simply have more money).
I still travel with my own cigars and a pint of good brandy.

Who is more tightfisted the Canadians or the Scottish? Much of this is
obviously cultural. In Minnesota, we find great joy in making fun of folks
from Iowa. Also, folks from Wisconsin are also suspect.

Beware that 'pints' refers to different volumes around the world.
Imperial pint = 568ml / U.S pint = 473ml. Not sure how much beer you would get in Canada in a pint.
I'm pissed off that in my part of the world a pint is only 425ml. Bastards.

We've been watching a show on Netflix on Scottish island and Mull was one f them. Surprisingly the episode on Skye spent as much time on Raasayas Skye.
