Just wondering what you all think will happen if I jump a low battery (scoot won't start) with my car (while the car is not running, of course), and then drive about 20 miles. Do you think the battery will sufficiently charge during that ride?

Thanks.

Although many recommend against jumping using a car battery, I've done it successfully. The subsequent long ride (20+ miles) didn't do enough since the battery overall was just "done" and couldn't hold a charge no matter what I did. But at least I got home.

My undertsnding is that the LX's have a stator that helps maintain a charge, but does not re-charge a battery the way an alternator does. A Battery Tender can prevent your battery from running out in the future.

The "stator" is the stationary piece that collects the power from the flywheel which rotates around it. It's connected to the regulator/rectifier which converts it (loosely) to DC voltage to re-charge your battery.

Keep the revs up and your battery will charge faster.

If you boost from your car/truck/something else: be sure that the vehicle is OFF and that you're both 12V systems.

There was another thread (at least) that addressed the issue of the charging system on the LX. There was one poster who had proof or at least a convincing argument that the LX will keep up its own battery.

I bought my LX in June. I have about 730 miles on it. Sometimes it will sit for a couple of weeks without being started and it always cranks over without a grunt. I bought a Battery Tender JR but it is still in the package, unopened.

Mine is an '06, and I never had any trouble before now (I have about 1600 miles on it).

My mechanical knowledge of the starting system is nonexistent at its worst, and rudimentary at its best, but I can say that a month or so ago it started becoming harder to start at times. I would get what sounded like a flywheel spinning, but when it tried to engage and fire the engine, it would cut out. Generally though, it would start after a few tries. Now, I just get the flywheel sound, and upon 'engaging,' the drain on the lights and console is such that everything dims, and it doesn't start.

Today I went and bought a Battery Tender Jr., so I hope tomorrow morning will be different in terms of starting her up.

Hi,

Sounds like your battery is toast - can happen from any number of things, even hard bumps. You can try to charge it, but it may not hold a charge, then it's replacement time. Good Luck!

Happy Motoring!... Jim
