If after changing the oil you discover the mesh oil filter that was left in a safe place, still there, all is not lost.
Place the scooter on its side, undo the drain bolt and re-fit mesh filter. New oil will not spill out. Ask me how I know.
Pretty sure you can do this on most if not all Piaggio/Vespa scooters.
