Modern Vespa

My old cylinder for my 1965 vlb 150 was tweaked so I got a new one. When I was assembling it I noticed where the head mounts on it doesn't have a lip Just a raised portion where the head meets. I know it does not need a gasket but seemed odd enough that I thought I should ask our community about it. The pictures I show is one with old head and new cydlinder, notice lip on head and just a flat on cylinder. The other picture of cylinder is of the old one notice matching lip for head lip. Hope I explained it clearly. Also the pin on the cylinder base by the ports does not have a pin in it, that matches engine casing.

That looks very Pinasco like. What diameter is the bore?

Low compression head with a raised lip and corresponding female end to match it on the cylinder is common in early motors with a deflector style piston. Heads with no lip, domed piston and high compression setups replaced that. I'm guessing you've got a newer cylinder but older parts. Sadly not apples to apples. Where did you buy your new cylinder?

The cylinder is 57mm. I got the cylinder at Super Mercato. Just got an e-mail from them seems like a new head is my best option. $40 US, If it makes it work I'm on it. Do I still use no head gasket?

Did they say you could use the old piston with the $40 head? Or did you receive a new piston with the cylinder? Just making sure were keeping it apples to apples.

Still no gasket but if youre feeling up to it, a little copper gasket spray will always help.

Yes came with new piston, wrist pin,cir- clips and rings. Thanks for checking.
