I realize that the laws regarding taxes on goods purchased from another of state online are different for each state , but does anyone know if one would have to pay taxes on a scooter that is bought online from another state and shipped to me in New Jersey?

In order to register it in NJ you will have to pay NJ sales tax.

Same thing with PA. If you buy it out of state, you pay the state sales tax when you register it here.

Living in New Jersey and having bought my Scooter in MA, You will indeed pay that dreaded 7% at The Registry.

My dealer in Boston thought he was doing me a favor thinking New Jersey wouldn't catch the fact that I hadn't paid sales tax. I'd rather of had the MA 5%. Who wouldn't?

I bought a boat in Ohio a few years back.

Sales tax in Ohio was 5%. Sales tax here in Agony county is 7%.

When I went to register the boat, I was given credit for the 5% I already paid, but had to make up the 2% difference out of pocket.

Not a problem for a $3000.00 scooter, but it was a chunk of change for a $24,000 boat.....

all states screw you on this...unless you are lucky to live in a sales tax free state like Montana...then you do like I did once and buy a car in another state, register it at your wifes grandparents, then reregister in your state a year later...$1400 saved, plus the property tax was 1/2 of the evil state I was living in at the time

That's an idea. I should track down my relatives in the tax-free states. But I'm thinking that it's not worth the trouble of all that. If only I lived one state away in Delaware!
