I got a damaged 2010 GTS 300, legshield is the only thing that is damaged real bad. It still rides no problem, but I want to replace it. I have watched videos on youtube of people changing legshield on older model vespas, I can't find much info on GTS models.
Any info/help would be appreciated. ![]() ![]() ⚠️ Last edited by Maxx28 on UTC; edited 1 time

That is part of the welded uni-body which is the frame of the scooter. Major repair. Insurance companies often total out a Vespa with a crunched front end.

I know insurance considers it total loss, but besides bent metal there is nothing wrong with it, absolutely clean GTS300 Super. The frame itself cost too much, $1500 for frame vs $200 for legshield. I think i will just order the legshield and take on the challenge.

How about showing us a pic or two of the damage before you do anything. Perhaps that one can be repaired. I believe the Vespa frames are assembled and welded in a jig to maintain alignment.

nice work so far. how will you approach the finishing - i.e. will you paint the whole scooter or what is your plan?

wow, good looking work thus far.
just an odd question though, if you go to sell this in the future would you be forthcoming in the facts that you carried out this repair? -g |

If you keep doing it as well as you are, you'd have nothing to hide from a buyer anyway. Pics and an explanation would be no problem for me as a buyer.

Good work, interesting repair not often seen on a scooter due to overall value vs. parts & labor.
Title wise, too my knowledge there are no states left where the branded title gets "cleaned up", it stays branded in some fashion. My state would call, brand your scoot as a "repaired from salvage" vehicle. I always took pics, copies of parts & labor, as originals went to the DMV. Done correctly, it's not a nasty business at all. "Clips" are a commonly done AB repair in the vehicle repair world. many, many vehicles of much higher value than any scooter, still get totaled by insurance companies. We all pay for it too. There are some doable repairs I'd not want on my own vehicles. I know a guy well whose cheapo Ranger ford PU truck got repaired twice when it needed a cab clip. it was based on his insurance agents best friend owning a local AB shop which he fed with work. There's quite a secondary parts business in the "insurance take-off parts alone. I often used take-off parts with minor damage instead of Asian aftermarket, low grade parts. |

When I see this kind of work here though I am always in awe. Great way to pass the time now for sure. |

I was hoping to get her done sooner but work kept me extremely busy (even during corona season) and with family it's hard to find time to work on the vespa.
Finally got it painted. I had a co-worker of mine do the painting. Last time i held a paint gun is decades ago. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I got the color idea from 2020 Chevy Corvette Blue. Pictures do no justice. You have to see it in person.

Excellent work all around and I absolutely love the color. Reminds me of the Saab Viggen blue.

![]() I lost some of the coolant when taking the radiators off. I flashed the remaining coolant and filled it with fresh coolant. Both front and rear brakes were totally gone, so i sat there and actuated them by hand as fast as i could for few minutes. I was able to regain the front brake. Rear brake does not want to come back to life and it seems like now i have to change the fluid to make it work again. I don't know why but when you don't use your brakes you lose them. ![]() |

It took exactly a year to finish. Just gotta change few small hardware here and there. I have all the stickers and emblems, but i kinda like the clean look of it.
