I just listened to a voicemail pretty much declaring my GT a total loss.
Last Saturday I was out having a *wonderful* ride, the weather was gorgeous, and I was totally enjoying myself. I intended on just doing a quick run around the block, but you know how it is.
A couple blissful hours later, I'm stopped at an intersection trying to make a right turn. I had just gotten out of a construction zone that turned a two lane bridge into one lane, so there was a bit of a bottleneck. I was in the right turn lane, with a car in front of me and a car behind me. The guy in front of me turned. I moved up into his spot and stopped to make sure everyone in the intersection could see me before completing my turn. The guy behind me saw me move up, assumed I had turned and was also looking to his left to see if he could turn. And bam, he ran right into me.
I am completely and totally fine, other than some mild soreness the next day in my arms and shoulders. I didn't see him coming, had no time to panic, and just reacted. I held on to the bike and got her stopped (I ended up getting pushed into the oncoming lane of traffic, but it was thankfully empty.) Next thing I knew, I had the bike on the shoulder and on her stand and was pulling out a pen and paper. I am not sure how I managed to stay so calm, but I did.
The guy was in his 60's and was pretty much in shock, though he did admit it was totally his fault and said he was sorry. We exchanged info and he went on his way, and then I decided to call the cops.
My topcase shattered and ended up in pieces across the intersection, my taillight was busted out, the plastic piece where the license plate attaches broke off, the crashbars got bent and buckled and worst of all, the whole back of the bike shifted. It is still ridable, and to the untrained eye doesn't look *that* bad.
After filling out the police report, I got home by myself no problem. The guys at Vespa Detroit have been taking awesome care of me. (Shoutout to my new friend and fellow MV poster Andy!)
This has not put me off scootering in the slightest. Depending on what kind of payout I get, I may step up to a GTS. I am so sad about my vespa though, I really love that bike and have a sentimental attachment to it. Sigh. I am hoping I get a chance to buy it back as a salvage.

Scooters can be replaced. Better that you came through without too much injury!

I'm sorry to hear about your accident Lynn. The insurance claim on my husband's totaled scooter was almost enough to purchase a brand new scooter one year newer. Good luck with the insurance and we're all glad you're okay.

Glad you're OK! It does make you realise how vulnerable you can be. I'm always aware of how much else is going on around you when on the scoot instead of the Jeep.
Anyway, you can always trade up to a GTS now

I'm hoping I get enough to put me in a new one w/o much additional expense....and I'd still like to buy back my salvage if I can. I love that bike.

Sorry to hear that Lynn, glad to hear you made it out relatively unscathed.
Hope the insurance gets resolved real soon and that you'll be posting pics of a new bike soon.

Sorry about the scoot, but happy to hear you're intact.
Progressive totaled my GT200, with minor cosmetic damages to the rear cowling. I paid a $450 salvage fee, taken out of the settlement, got the scoot back and a decent check. I'm in the process of having the "salvaged" GT recertified for the street. At worse, I paid $450 for a complete set of replacement parts for the next GT.
I hope everything works out to your advantage.

Hang in there. Hope everything is sorted out so that you can move up to the GTS, if that's what you want. You'll enjoy the GTS.
