So I am sitting after having been hit an run by some drunk prick waiting for the Police for over an hour. I got his license plate in a pic before he could run off so he's going to pay ,but what really makes me mad is I have his license but the Police won't and aren't trying to get him until a report is filed.... So all this time this guy is hiding or sobering up and will get away without getting a DUI.
I am lucky I only have a few bruises and a scratch or two... but my scoot is really sad.. it twisted the handlebars almost backwards and sent the engine screaming and I had a hell of a time getting it turned off as the kill button was shocking me from a short. The batwing is twisted around past the point of 4th gear and I cant get it to go in gear no matter what I do. Lucky i was only 2 mi from home an I could push it there. I just got this scoot running good... the only good thing is this fukking drunk idiot is GOING TO PAY ! I smell a shopping spree coming... Now I really need to get my BGM kit together on my other favorite scoot... I'm stuck atm with only my smally running ...its fun but not like the 210 .... So anyway I'm having a pity party all by myself while I wait for cops at 2 am ... Pray they get this sucker tonite and he gets a DUI too. Think good thoughts for me, I pray none of these aches are going to stay around too long but damm as we get older these things suck more and more,,,,

Damn sorry to hear this! Like everyone glad you're OK. I'd be pissed too on a number of levels. Good you had enough sense to get the plate number and hopefully some justice is served.

You called it though, they didn't want the DUI so took off instead of stopping and at the very least seeing how you are.

Man that sucks. Don't usually use strong language here, but what a bastard he is. How about just facing up to his responsibilities as a human being and checking on you at least. Hope they get his early and throw the book at him. Best wishes that the aches and pains go away quickly.

ARRGH! Well, first of all glad you are more or less OK! That's #1 and your scooter will be fixed, probably some things better than before. Let's just hope the cops get the other driver quick and he has proper insurance, just keep thinking about that happy shopping spree that you are now due.

Very timely reminder ppl, Spring is here and time for night prowling on warm evenings but there are stupid ppl out there in cars that refuse to watch out for us so be on guard!!!

@Safis: Good eye on your club sticker! More will be appearing on various West Coast scooters, hopefully in some locations you may recognize.

He stopped for a minute , started yelling at me. I said hey - F**k you man u ran me down. He's like oh If you're yelling at me we're going to have to call the cops (I have long dreadlocks - he think Im going to be scared ? ) I said hell yes u ran me down we have to call the cops , Then he was like fuck you I'm leaving or someshit .. Jumps in his car an goes to take off. I get in front of him and start frantically waving at other cars trying to get help . It was a 2012 Camaro , He pops it in reverse as I fumble my phone out of my jacket and smokes the tires veering around me I just barely caught a pic of him. So lucky, as with a few filters and what not myself and the Police were able to get the plate. I called a accident attorney with a good rep first thing this morning. Dudes going to get a class C felony ,mucho fines and I Guarantee I will do everything in my power to take as much from him as I can. There is nothing worse than a hit an run as far as vehicle crimes go other than drunk driving accidents imho.
Thank you guys for all your kind replies and well wishes. I really appreciate the community here and all its support. Never assume a car 2 lanes over ISNT going to all of a sudden drive into you. Be especially wary late at night ,it was 1am. Lucky me I was coming from a sober W African drum party with my Djembe on my back -I actually think the drum took some of the impact and saved me a bit! There are aches and pains today that weren't there before, I'm going for a hot bath . Cheers..

I would hope that upon inspection the police would see some scooter paint on the guy's car, the photo is time stamped & was police reviewed immediately after, so they would be following up on a legitimate victim complaint and if the guy won't show the car..... a judge would grant a search warrant? Lawyers?

He left the scene, I wouldn't want to be that guy.

I'm glad to hear that you're OK, even if a good-looking scoot is not, and that it sounds like you might get some legal retribution.

The hardest part of being the victim of a crime, sadly, is getting the cops to care enough to take action, so I'm happy to hear they're actually on this. I've never been so fortunate.

Also, you should probably wind down this thread, especially if you're going to go after the driver in civil court.

Most of all, count me in the "glad you're OK" category.

YES!!!
it was a matter of possibility , 4 characters were clearly visible- by pulling a copy of the font WA uses and placing it on my screen next to the zoomed filtered image I wrote all the possibilities down. Free plate check an 45 min later I had it. Surprisingly enough when I called the Officer to tell him, they had done it already too . I had no faith they would.... I was pleasantly surprised and I think he was too... Now I want to know what they are doing about it.

Are you shitting me?
I crashed into his front quarter panel ... You think there's not evidence? It was smashed in mightily in fact i think his front tire was rubbing and his car was smoking. He has a class C felony charge coming. They are taking this serious. the fact of where the hit is and that he left the scene is plenty. If he wasn't in the wrong why would he leave with a 25-30k car if he wasn't at fault? - plus I just looked up the traffic cams for here and there IS one right there. I pray to everything sacred in the world this idiot doesn't walk away from this..

Sorry to hear what happened.

I reckon he has his car checked into a garage right now.

Those street cameras would be the best way to nail him.

1.- Two words. paint transfer.

2.- OK. Say someone does do a stupid thing. And drops his scooter. Do you think he'd risk jail just to blame someone he had words with?

3.- There's probably going to be a witness.

4.- Give the police some credit. If they investigate it, they WILL get it right. It's not rocket science to someone that makes it their career.

No witnesses ?
Person gets spooked by a car doing something dumb, drops his scooter. Gets mad, yells at driver. Driver leaves. Scooter rider takes picture of a car.
No witnesses --- what collision?
O.S.

As a person who's been on the receiving end of a hit and run a few times...

1. Whichever vehicle has the lower quality paint job, that paint will have a WAY better chance of transferring to the higher quality paint. That paint can easily be removed in a few seconds with lacquer thinner....it's also called "tampering with evidence". If the D/B driver has a "body shop friend" who fixes the damage, then his buddy can get into big trouble as well.

2. I'm in agreement.

3. you'd be surprised.

4 you'd be surprised. The officers that I made a report with, were more of doughnut scientists. They weren't to helpful. I bet if apple fritter was involved, it would have turned into a statewide manhunt.

I'm not trying to be negative, I just want Falcon to make that all of his bases are covered. Having something that you cherish very much, as well as your health, to be taken away from you is just plain wrong. That D-bag needs to be off the streets.

Emotions are high on this (and rightfully so), but we ALL are pulling for the Falcon here!

whodat- The extent of police response and whether or not there's an investigation vary widely for many reasons. All departments set their own rules. What gets a response and further police involvement in a small or middle size town or township will get ZERO response in an inner city.

What is encouraging in Falcon's crash, is that the P.D. already started their own investigation as to identifying the vehicle and driver by the time he contacted them. This shows they are interested in doing what's right and charging the di*%head.... However, if the driver turns out to be the nephew of the mayor/judge/police chief then all bets are off.

As someone who was the victim of a hit and run 3 years ago, Make sure you and your lawyer check all businesses close by for external video, as well as city cameras. I also hope the asshole piece of trash that hit you actually had insurance, and at that, not state minimum.

Best of luck!

finally ....
I am happy to report that after nearly two years of trying to get justice I have prevailed. The guy was a real piece of work but luckily when you're lying a trained judge can tell whats what. I got a monetary settlement that at least covers all my expenses and a bit extra. It's not as much as I hoped for, but a lot better than the nothing I had. A quick word of advice --- If you ever get in any type of accident - Before Anything --TAKE PICTURES - then talk etc etc. If I had taken pictures right away I would have walked away with a lot more and that shit would have gone to jail. Next no matter what you feel or think of your condition go immediately to a doctor and get checked out ,I was so full of adrenalin I didn't realize how injured I was until the next day and not immediately seeking treatment weakened my case. Also they will ask if you're injured never say you aren't - if anything say you don't know as you're too shaken up to know. I was scared of them trying to send me to a hospital and charges for it that I told 911 that I wasn't injured and this also weakened my position - even though I was obviously in shock. I hope that my sharing this will help someone someday. Just remember -DOCUMENT first then worry about anything else and don't comment on your well being - just go get checked out. Cheers ~

Glad you are OK as well and that is some very good advice! I've been in shock before and it really alters your mind set. I also HATE the way healthcare works in some places. No one should EVER have to worry about being brought to the hospital because of the cost. There is just something so inherently wrong with that. Not trying to make a political statement and I'm not saying our system is perfect but I lived in the US and even with my employer covering me healthcare was confusing and it shouldn't be.
