Monty Python was a huge part of my growing up and my friends and I would quote Python all the time especially when down at the pub.

Rather refreshing that the bunch of bright lads decided to poke fun at, well, nearly everything, rather than making a bundle on the markets or going into the defense industry. I particularly liked it when they addressed the class system. "Upper Class Twit of the Year" always has me in stitches.

I feel sorry for anyone who hasn't been acquainted with Monty Python. Recently introduced my granddaughter to it. Sadly, some of it needs cultural context to be funny. Although she, being a dance fanatic, thought the "Ministry of Silly Walks" hilarious. Sadly, I suspect a number of her duller classmates would respond with "Whaat?".

when I was in school, I lived in a crappy little apt in Chicago(all I could afford). One of my best friends, also in school, lived above me. We studied a lot. But, every Sunday night we stopped studying to watch, The Prisoner, Benny Hill, and of course Monty Python. It was a great release and all of those shows were so addictive and the Monty Python players were clearly unique. Their take on humor was so unique, all of them so talented. They went on to make movies, and even a play. I so appreciate all of your posts with many of their great lines.

My comment was the unvarnished truth, but of course I've heard of the other stage side of his name, Monty Python. Obviously not someone I followed.

Did you mean Tim Conway? Tim, Jonathan Winters, Bob Newhart, Henny Youngman, Bob Hope, et. al., were indeed funny guys, but more in the stand up, Catskills tradition of comedy.

"Monty Python's Flying Circus" was the troupe's name, like Second City or The Groundlings. Interestingly, the theme music was John Philip Sousa's "The Liberty Bell" march. Individual cast members always used their true names. Plus, they had interesting other careers. Michael Palin did a series of really informative travel shows, and Terry Jones was an avid amateur historian and did a number of lay documentaries on historic sites around the world.

I am blessed with decent health, great family and do live not cup half full glad to see the sun come up. I took it not the Monte Python way as I have not a clue as to his humor. But I'm curmugeonly, (same as irreverant?) so maybe me a ole Terry would've had a good time, huh?

And they do sound like interesting people at that. I will say that when they were in there heyday, I was sort of busy with life not living large if you will.

By the way, Terry's shows on history are available for watching on youtube - interesting, informative and a bit Python-esque in some respects...
