Hello!

I just got my Vespa branded leg cover - installed easily and is actually quite effective for cold riding temps. Got it at RevZilla for about $180.

Yeah they are great and really do make a difference. I've never heard the term leg cover but sure, that works. We generally call them skirts or if you want to get technical a rider canopy. I'm not trying to be a dick by correcting you BTW it's just if you do want to get in to scooter/riding culture knowing the terms is handy and there are a lot of them!

Welcome to the board and you've got a great scoot, hope you're enjoying it

I have skirts on my BMW and Vespa but they stopped making the Ural version which is a bummer or I'd definitely pick one up. Of course the irony is it is generally my daily rider in the winter up here on Toronto.

Sean (aka Harbinger) is NOT a Richard (read: Dick) LOL. Great rider with great experience - a wealth of knowledge which he freely shares.

Go to a boat canopy shop and ask them to make you one. Just show them one on one of your other bikes so they understand what you want.
Not going to be cheap though. Bet you could get it for under $300

Thanks, both of you

Good idea WEB-Tech. I even have pictures of the Ural skirt that used to exist which should help.

I had a friend that would buy 80's Chevy Blazers, take the half roof off and have a marine canvas company make a tonneu cover.

Love this forum! Lot's of generous input. RevZilla calls the item a "leg cover" on the item page.

Searching for leg skirt doesn't yield the result
https://www.revzilla.com/search?_utf8=✓&query=leg+skirt

but search for "leg cover" does. https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/vespa-leg-cover-gts-250-300-super-gtv-250-300

It may be site specific though. Either way - they sure do help!

Huh... that is interesting. Funny thing (or not) you are completely correct! I mean of course you are but they all seem to be using that term now. Handy to know... thanks! Weird thing is none of us that have been riding for ages use the term so maybe it is a new(ish) naming convention. Laptop Apron I know for a fact is what many used but I guess Leg Cover is as non gender as you can get so maybe that is it.

We call it a winter leg cover. I think Piaggio calls it an apron.

It's great in the rain too.

No, no, it is funny... I've always heard that there is a skirt or apron. I have the Scooter Buddy thing that goes around your waist, rather than attaching to the bike.

I had the Tucano Urbano on my BV350 and it was amazing.

Does anyone know how the Vespa Leg Cover, as shown by Motovista compares to the Tucano Urbano items? Fit 'n Finish 'n interior Fuzziness?. All key factors.

I couldn't compare it to the Turbano - but... it's fairly thick/rigid and has "fur" really in the center portion. But the seal keeps the engine exhaust blowing warm air so it's good. The side tubing is styrofoam noodles that are also quite rigid but bend to shape. The waist strap around is Velcro and but unfortunately not too big so a thick coat or two makes it almost too small. I think I'll add a bit of Velcro to it so it's easier to put on. It's probably not super necessary though because the wind is blowing against and isn't gonna lift it forward. There is a zipped compartment which extends the cover to fit around the seat for full seat rain protection. There's a flip up flap for the key entry but it's a little more difficult to access the seat unlock button on the other side. I suppose it's good the scoot has a key fob for that...

I have been a big TU fan for years. Both products have advantages. The TU ships in a 15x12 priority mailer, and the other one barely fits into a 26x8x8 box, so it will always take up more space when you are not using it. The air bladders in the TU leg cover allow you to roll it up out of the way during warmer days, but in cold weather they do lose air and you get to spend time on your knees blowing them... up. Not exactly fun in 25 degree weather. Quite a few people over the years have replaced the bladders in the TU termoscud with pool noodles, for that reason. Good luck finding pool toys for sale in the dead of winter though.

Piaggio also makes winter leg covers for the Primavera/Sprint, MP3 and the BV 350, and the good thing about them is that they are model specific and don't sort of fit a lot of different makes and models.
That said, it's 36 degrees outside and I'm about to ride my Honda home from the shop in jeans and tennis shoes, keeping warm with a Termoscud.

I still pull thick, over-sized joggers over my pants in the winter. A friend had a scooter skirt on his Stella and I was so jealous! Might see whats out there for the Liberty.

I'm looking at this instead.
Cheaper and it's not bike dependant, I have 5.

I'm looking at that for the Ural and days I don't have skirts on my other rides. How comfortable is it?

I only have experience with the tucano Urbano. It takes a bit of getting used to. To me it served an extra purpose. It made me ride my scooter with my legs closer to the floorboard. I mean you can not eide froggy position with it on.

I have long legs and I am 6-3. It proved to be way too restrictive for me. I sold it cheap in the classified section. I still remember Tom jazz saying that it was too cheap that I should ask for more. Somebody snatched it before I could change my mind about the price. I have no regrets.

Thanks Max, that's helpful info. I'm 5'11' so the fit might be better but on the Ural I will need to be able to change gears and operate a brake while straddling a saddle. Think I will hold off on ordering and maybe look at a custom skirt getting made.

You can't tell from the photos or description, but these are basically waterproof stripper chaps. It's something else you need to take the time to put on and take off. With the apron style product, you put on a jacket and gloves, hop on the bike and take off. Pretty much what you do when the weather is nice.

Here is a very pleasant demonstration of the product.

I have one after trying out various skirts/aprons. It is very comfortable and easy to put on/take off. An extra benefit is that one can use it on multiple vehicles. Highly recommended.

These North Face snow pants are what I use. They can be found pretty inexpensively online. I ordered a size up so they fit over my work clothes.

We also call them (in Italy) leg covers, the day before yesterday i was going to Rome (with my car) and on the highway I saw a scooter driver with a plaid tied with ropes ... ouch. Maybe an emergency remedy but it made me laugh bent in two. This from Tucano is fun:

Thank you for posting, I saw your post and bought these from SIP. They are warm and work well for me given my 1.8 mile commute to the office. Since I own both a GTS and a BV I don't have to buy two skirts.

Thanks again
