I bought some new riding boots last summer that have laces. They are not too tall but it does take some effort to get the lacing tight.

Then I remembered the lace-tightening hooks we used to tighten ice-skate laces when I was growing up in Boston.

Amazon has them and it works perfectly and much easier and faster than using my fingers.

Ice Skate Lace Tightener Tool.

Looks exactly like a cheaper version of a coil spring installation tool.

If you already have one of those in your tool box (I do), you're good to go. Razz emoticon

Excellent observation!! Its always a satisfying-pleasure to figure out how to dual-purpose a seldom-used tool.

I don't have a coil spring tool (but could have used one several times over the years). I think you could probably use the lace-tightening tool for coil-spring installation as well, eh?

I don't think so. A spring puller tool is usually pointed at the end. I think the boot lace pulling tool would be harder to use because of the blunt end.

Bending the tip of an ice pick also works.

The only springs on a Vespa I'd ever had to stretch were the side stand springs like this.

The loop is about 1/2" diameter. A lace tightening tool is about 1/4" diameter shank so even with a blunt end, it should still work well for the many springs.

a great tool I had one for my ice skates and used it many times. But my riding boots from Revzilla are velcro, and much easier in my opinion

It is a great tool.

I really wanted zipper or velcro boot but couldn't find anything I liked so decided it was a lace up boot. They are great boots and I'm really happy with them. I just wish it was easier to put them on and take them off. No complaints tho. The lace tightening tool makes it a LOT easier.

I'm glad someone else has fond memories of tightening ice skates with them.

Thanks for the video! A pointed tool is really the right tool for that job.

I am an ice skater here as well. Lacing up my skates was part of a ritual. I always felt like I was concentrating for the rink.
