Tearing down the GL and came across something I haven't seen before... a metal cover over the main and idle jets with a "140" stamp on it.

Anyone else seen one of these or know what's it for?

Seen that on a VBA (or VBB) carb IIRC. I thought maybe it was for keeping dust/debris out of the jet stack?

It's an air corrector like what you would see on later SI main jet stacks. Once you remove this cover/air corrector, you will see the pilot jet that is plugged and the main jet stack with only the main and atomizer.

Jonathan right on the money. I had this air-corrector on my 65 Allstate. I would go out and look at the number to see if there was a big difference from yours to mine, but I just sold the scooter a few days ago. Ho well...scott
