Hi,

Can someone enlighten me on how to go about breaking-in a new GTV250?

Many Thanks

Gentle at first and then vary the revs and riding style a lot. This helps bed in the engine and reduces future oil consumption. Ride it hard sometimes and enjoy.

I say blast it full on from new. There's lots of opinion on hard or gentle breakin, but on our race boats we get lazy engines if you treat nicely. Blast em and they go great!

Although it's not widely agreed, I run them without regard to break-in. I've done this same practice on all the motorcycles I've owned in the last 35 years. No problems. I do treat 2-strokes like babies at first. But, 4-strokers get the Wrath of Khan from day one.

The owners manual said no more than 80% power for the first 1000km.

first hundred miles...
Mine is just about breaking the first hundred miles and I'm riding it as if I owned it for years.

In NYC we don't get to stay at top speed for more than a few blocks at a time anyway, so I fi-gger it will 'self regulate' itself.

Of course, in NYC, the odds of ever WEARING out your scoot are slim in compared to having it stolen, crashed, smashed or otherwise abused...but d*mn won't it be fun fun fun until NYC takes my Vespa away!!!!
