So for some reason when I am on one of my scooters I feel so much safer than say my Aprilia Dorsaduro . And I am sure that I am since none of my scooters will ride a wheely but I am in the city more on the scooters . So I should wear my full face but I find myself with a half or 3/4 helmet . With all the cagers around me and all the cell phone distracted riders I should wear a full face .But I almost never do is it just me or are the rest of you scooter riders doing the same ?

Shoei Neotec for me. Looking at the Neotec 2 this spring some time, as my current lid is over 5 years old.

so I have a HJC 3/4 helmet and have recently bought a shark evoline modular that goes from 3/4 to full face. It is an excellent helmet as when you want to go 3/4 the face part slips to the back of the helmet so it becomes a tru 3/4. Now I bought it as I could go full face but I have to admit I rarely use it that way and almost always use it 3/4, but it is a really full face 3/4.

I busted the Lambretta. (Anyone remember that?)
Full Face (Kabuto Kamui) for me ever since my first off at only 5mph pitched me face-first straight into the edge of a curb. I got out with only a black eye, but I learned something.

Arai RamX when I ride the scooters in or around town. I have several other generations of this helmet. I prefer a 3/4, but also have several Arai full face, along with a Shoei and AGV for riding longer distances and faster bikes. I also have a Ruby Tron that hasn't been worn much. I'm in hopes that Arai offers a modular, but they feel they're not as safe. A Schuberth modular will probably be my next helmet purchase unless someone comes with something better.

I prefer full-face. I'm looking at trying out a modular for my next helmet, mainly because I keep forgetting to hydrate on long rides.
Don't get overly comfortable just because you're on a scooter. Overconfidence leads to being inattentive, leads to trouble when you least expect it and is the higher percentage of two-wheeled incidents. If I ever go to a 3/4 helmet, I'll still use a face shield. During the second year on my Vespa, I was riding through a church parking lot to find the road I missed my turn for and discovered instead a steel cable at (seated) head height! It caught me at the base of my visor and clotheslined me. I managed to hang onto the GTS and not drop it, but it trashed the full-face helmet I was wearing. I had some very strong, public words with that church for running a visually invisible steel cable without signage or markers in the middle of an open parking lot between the church and a children's daycare. It was gone the next time I went past it two days later. But...no open-face helmets for me and I get paranoid about seemingly innocent terrain anymore! |

When this happened
My next helmet is 3/4 too, while I still have a modular fullface. My reason is: When I feel too warm and wet, I have to ride faster to get more wind. And faster ride could lead to bad issues. |

I would feel naked without my full-face helmet.
I can be caught riding without proper jacket, trousers or shoes within a few hundred meters from our place, but not without my full-face helmet. I've had only full-face helmets for so, so long now, that being without feels... well, really like walking without trousers in a public road. A flip-up would be OK, but since I don't have a "Shoei shaped head" and I'm picky with helmets, I've sticked to a full-face.

Both my wife and I started out with 3/4 helmets for awhile but have switched to modular helmets as feel safer with full face protection. However it is nice to be able to flip it up when in traffic

I use an Shoei RF1200, which saved me from certain head injuries on a previous accident on my XSR900.
I used the $400 helmet reimbursement from my insurance to buy another. I had 17 fractures and my scull and jaw were not involved. |

I wear a 3/4 around town. The office is several blocks from home, and my trips from there are 5-10 minutes and generally under 35 mph. It's a conscious tradeoff of protection for convenience.
For longer & faster rides at highway speed I've got a white Klim TK1200 modular that I love. Much quieter, better protection, and a Transitions face shield. |

Wear what you want but I'm in the Toreador Pants group and apparently not who you directed the thread towards since you choose no helmet at times.
I see zero reason to compromise with anything less than a full helmet, all IMO of course. Any powered machine reaches speeds that will do your head serious damage, end of story for me. I'm no worry wart either or I'd not be riding at all. |

You will tell me ... don't go when it's too hot but if I have to be totally conditioned by the climate I don't use a scooter but a car with air conditioning; it will be an extreme thought but as often happens compromises and associated risks are accepted. The skier knows that he will be able to fall and be seriously injured but he continues to ski, minimal dose of risk but he exists and is accepted and goes on for another thousand and more activities; the principle is the same. ⚠️ Last edited by Attila on UTC; edited 1 time

It seems everyone else has a nice helmet.
It may be time for me to upgrade from my HJC CL-17 (full face). It's heavy, the face mask is scratched , and it lost a non-protective piece a few weeks ago. |

The helmet should be changed according to the type of material it is made of, some types of plastic depolymerize after a relatively short time weakening the structure.

As technology advances, helmets should be lighter and more affective. So getting a new helmet might be a very good idea. |

I have a 3/4 HJC, a modular Bilt, and the one that is now getting all the use: a Nolan N70-2gt. The N70-2gt has a removable chin bar; with the chin bar locked in, it is protective like a full face helmet, but with much better visibility.
![]() Good venting, but with the vents open, it does allow more noise in. Comfortable, with a quick release chin strap. Includes a pinlock lens. With the chin guard off, it is a nice 3/4. Drop down sun shield. Fit is important, and Nolan fits my head; this is my second Nolan. |

...i had a Nolan and i don't have a good memory of its quality...thrown in the trash after only two years.
The gasket was detached behind the visor and with it also the paint, reported for warranty but the answer was that it had been a problem caused by me ... I will not buy them anymore. |
