A hi-viz Nolan 100-5 modular right now. I've ended up rubber sideways or pelted by kicked up rocks way too many times in my youth, which made me realize that if I hadn't had a full face at the time, I might not be around to talk about it.

I get the feeling of riding without full gear or without a helmet and have been there done that, but getting hurt takes time away from riding. Besides riding in the rain or in very cold weather with anything else but a full face helmet is awful, at least to me it is.
I'm going to the Cycle Gear store next week to look for a replacement for my new HJC that I believe is too large and that's what's causing my noise issue.

Hoping to find a Nolan like your's to maybe replace it with.

I don't think that Cycle Gear carries Nolan helmets.

The best answer I have for helmet noise is good earplugs.

They have worked well for me for years.

But I hope you find the solution to your helmet issues.

I've got two active modulars: a Schuberth C3 Pro and a Nolan N100-5 with the Cherry Fade.

I've got a SparX FC-07 that I wore twice but couldn't reconcile with the lack of a chinbar. It looks nice and seems comfortable.

Finally, I have an HJC SyMax II that is retired due to age. I wrote about it on MB a few years ago. Haven't worn it since.

Thanks, I looked up what they sell and Nolan is not included.
Also wanted to look at the Nexx-xwed , they don't sell that either.
I bought my HJC through Revzilla , but it looks like I'll need to gamble on one from Chrome Burner in the Netherlands .

Buying helmets via the internet is like gambling in LV.

( I always wear ear plugs ) Currently wear Ear Peace. They are great , my helmet is a size too large I believe. Too late to return it for an exchange.

As I dismounted my Honda Forza300, a man standing on the sidewalk glanced at my Nolan and said, "that's a big helmet for a little scooter!"
I replied to his sarcasm with, "No, you see....the scooter doesn't wear the helmet, I do. "

Maybe overkill on my part as on a Vespa I'm not likely to swivel my head in extremely high speed wind. But old habits.....

Maybe you can do the same with your helmet?

I will add my highly opinionated but worthless opinion...

Life is about choices. The choice to ride a motorcycle or scooter is about choosing to accept risk. How you decide to mitigate your own risk is a very personal matter. I generally don't have issue with anyone's informed decision as long as they accept the associated risks, no matter how big or small.

With that in mind, when I ride one of my motorcycle I am full face helmet and pretty much All The Gear All The Time. I don't run errands around town on my bikes. That is why I have a scooter. Helmet always but I might use my 3/4 helmet. Mostly likely will have a jacket and long pants with boots & gloves, like they taught in the MSF class as minimum level protection. But I accept that and the associated higher risks of not being fully armored. But that is only around the neighborhood running errands. If I take a longer scooter ride, my level of protection will certainly increase.

As always, YMMV

I was going to suggest this too. Most manufacturers make only a few shell sizes and then offer a wider range of helmet sizes by changing the liner thickness and most manufacturers offer new liners for sale if the liner is removable.

I also currently use a hi-viz Nolan 100-5 modular right. My last three helmets have all been hi-viz yellow to save me thinking about whether I'm visible or not.

As others have said the modular helmet allows great flexibility in comfort whilst affording good protection.

Win win for me

I think that we each have to make our own personal choices on what to wear, I wouldn't go without a helmet or wear a full face by choice but I understand why others choose those routes and I would defend their right to do so.

Well when you are going 80 miles an hour you need a full face helmet.

I looked up on the HJC helmet site, the XL pads in my helmet are 22mm thick, They do sell replacement cheek pads, so I'll try a set from a Large model that are 27mm thick. That's a bunch less money than buying a different helmet. If it works great, if not I'll sell the HJC and try a different brand that is lighter and perhaps less noisy.

Yes they are expensive and yes, they are very good.

It doesn't matter what you are riding when you fall or get hit. The bumper/ grill/ windshield of the other vehicle is exactly the same, as is the pavement when your face meets it.

Chicks dig scars, and pain is only temporary, but brain damage is not sexy and men who are missing a jawbone are generally at a disadvantage, socially.
While I appreciate what you're trying to say here, I'd REALLY appreciate it if we don't use disability as either a stigma or weaponize it. My life isn't your advertising gimmick. To me, that ranks right up there with pointing at autistic people and saying "that's why you shouldn't get vaccinated." It's not okay and I'm REALLY tired of constantly hearing it. We can stop perpetuating stigmas if we try.
k-thanks.

On a motorcycle, you can go at least 120 with an open face helmet and snap on visor from JC Whitney. It's not smart, but it's definitely possible.

Now that I'm comfortable with my Russian metal mistress I'm thinking goggles and helmet. Problem is I wear glasses so need to find goggles that work well.

Think I said earlier in this thread. I have about 7 helmets. 2 modular, 4 FF and 1 aviator.

With covid I'm not sure what the try on rules will be. I know the few clothing stores that are open are apparently quarantining tried on apparal for a few days before putting them back out. Are they actually doing that? No clue. Anyway trying a helmet on seems even more touchy than say a button down shirt.

I bought my first helmet in September, and I have many qualms with it. (The pads broke in so much it doesn't fit me well anymore. It's also loud on the highway, and the visor is so hard to remove/reinstall that I've removed it from the helmet indefinitely.)

Those qualms have led me to decide it's going to be a guest helmet, and I should get a better one for myself. That said, I'm quite glad I got a helmet (and a Vespa!) before this happened.

Helmet should fit very tight at first.
Also look into manufactures like Aria that provide different thickness liners.
In the winter I run a thinner liner than in the summer to allow for head gear in the winter.

A Nolan N87 for my Ducati Scrambler and will also be used for the Vespa Sprint out of town

Will be ordering Tucano Urbano El'jet in matt red and grey for use with the Vespa around town. Will be my first open face style helmet

Got In the Habit Early
Okay: I was one of the first people to wear a helmet riding a bicycle (Bell Biker) in the early 80s: some thought I looked dorky, but somehow I didn't care.

Now: Still never ride a pedal-powered two-wheeler without a helmet. Current moto helmet is an HJC RPHA 70 ST. My decision to stick with FF helmets was vindicated a few weeks back while riding home from Brooklyn on the Garden State Parkway around 8PM, at roughly 75mph. Something that was either a very large insect or a very small bird struck my visor quite hard, startling me but not to the point of my losing control. Stopping at our local Wegman's on the way home I was able to inspect my visor: no it didn't crack, but I have enough scratches to warrant ordering a replacement ASAP. You can wax romantic all you want about wind-in-the-hair (someone on Quora suggested that not having such protection is a good "natural" speed-limiter...let's just say I have a difference of opinion with him), I'll take protection any day of the week that ends in "...day."
In Yo' Face: Well, the visor helped.

Problem is I wear glasses so need to find goggles that work well.

Pacific Coast Airfoil Padded 'Fit Over Glasses' Riding Goggles from Amazon. I use these on my open face Bell 500. This is my grocery getter A.T.G.A.T.T. helmet

I have also switched to straight temple glasses both clear and my "sunny's". Easier to slip out/slip in while wearing a helmet. Not a choice for every one.

3/4 Arai is my short jaunts helmet. RXz Full face shield not jet style,

I have a face mask designed for riding. It uses a replaceable filter which lately is unobtanium.

I have a Shoei RF-1100 (FF) that's been my every day helmet for a couple years. This Spring, I decided to take the plunge on the newly released Shoei J-Cruise II (3/4) as a "Summer lid", and I have been very happy with it this far.

I recently bought my first full-face helmet, a Shoei RF-1200 in yellow. I also have a 3/4 Nexx SX10 with interchangeable outer shells, so I can wear it red, yellow, or white. My short ride/hot weather lid is a LS2 Rebellion in chrome.

... do you have a beard like George Lucas?
Legend has it that he grew a beard to hide the damage he picked up in a bad wreck.
Lucky he could still grow one!
