A few weeks ago I had an attempted theft on my scooter.
Several parts were stipped off but they left the engine, so it runs fine.
Now I've had a reply from the insurance and want to get it fixed.
In the meantime my tax has run out and I need an MOT.
The state the bike is in it will not pass an MOT.
I can not drive to a garage to get a quote for repairs.
And I can't find a garage that will come to mine for a quote.

What do I do?????

Parts that were stolen and need replacing (ET2, W-reg):
dashboards (all the dials, casing)
headlamp
mirrors
glovebox and surrounding casing
access to motor cover
casing on either side at rear of vespa (not main parts, but attachments at the bottom that 1/2 cover wheels)

What kind of cost am I looking at?

Crying or Very sad emoticon

I'm not familiar with how strict the laws are regarding MOT. If I were in the same position I would ride the bike to the shop, and it you get stopped explain your situation and hope for some sympathy. I have bikes I've had for years that aren't registered and I drive them regularly. But this is the states, and I'm sure it's different. What happens if you get get caught driving with expired MOT?

If you are not a huge distance from a dealer then I would ride it there and explain if you get stopped. So long as you have brake lights I would not be too bothered. Just be sure to have the V5 with you in case they think you nicked it.

half the cars in london are driving around with a dodgy MOT, no insurance, or an unlicensed/banned driver. as charlesm says, if you've got working brake lights it's really unlikely you'll be stopped. might be an idea to stay off major roads if you can though.

If you're seriously worried about riding it to a shop, call over a friend with a truck, buy them lunch, pay for gas, and ask if they wouldn't mind helping you out for a couple hours.

You can ride without TAX, number plate, working lights etc... as long as it is booked in for MOT. Only there and back mind you! (You must have insurance though, you already got that).

In the UK it is very rare to have a "friend with a truck" and even rarer to have one that you can strap a Vespa down in. Get on the road and ride in defiance of the criminal who stole your parts. There is no way a cop will do anything about it at all (unless he has had his heart removed).

Sorry to say this, but I think you're looking at a write off from the insurance co...Unless you can get those parts second hand,to fit them to a W reg ET2 will probably be classed "economically unviable"...
