A small titbit from Lambretta Clothing in the UK, who are just about to launch the Who range of clothing here:
I'm undecided whether its completely naff or not. A ready painted parka seems a little sad to me.

not completely naf, but there are hints of nafness ... pre-painted parkas are definitely sad (but not quite as sad as pre-ripped jeans).

I think wearing any of it may mean being ridiculed by real mods. Though the Who aren't the first musicians to bring out mod style clothing - Paul Weller did some shirts for Ben Sherman.
Except they were quite good. "Diet mod - the cool you can consume between rallies without spoiling your appetite" |

What are they thinking? Maybe for the next wave of new mods?
I'm still a mod at my age. And just as keen today, though not as sharp. Your right, old mods might give the new kids some stick, but with the high prices for "vintage gear" even in Oxfam? They have to start somewhere. Cheers |

Only Pete Looks cool in that Union Jack Blazer and that shirt looks like my old Ben Sherman Shirt i tossed out. I still have my Ben Shermans and some Fred Perries, have no idea what the heck happened to my desert boots Most of my old Fred Perry shirts are at local bay area thrift stores. for the price they cost now, i should have kept them. Please do'nt spray paint on my parka i had a Who Union Jack patch on the back of my parka when i was 16.

Private investigators may want to avoid wearing the red, black, and white jacket during stakeouts. May want to avoid using the scooter with orange flames also. Just a thought.

I dunno ..i don't go out of my way to listen to The Who, but when i watch Quadrophenia, and the initial title sequence where it's Jimmy riding down the street on his lambretta with some Who song playing ... that's an awesome clip.
all in all, a terrible movie for the masses, but man it strikes a chord in me. I just watch it for the clothes, the scoots ... and the nostalgia for an era that existed well before i did. |

Translation please
What does naf mean?
And for the record--if you don't like the Who, you don't like rock n' roll. |

Don't Like The Who? WTF
Pete Townshend - one of the most creative, prolific, influential and energetic guitarists and songwriters ever. Ask ANY professional musician. He and all of his era(s)...yes Beatles, Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Velvet Underground, Ronnie Lane, etc...were not initially products of record companies and producers. They wanted to play and did anywhere and everywhere. You don't have to love there music but it is irrefutable their pivotal role.
John Entwhistle - He's not strumming the bass. Have you ever REALLY listened to his chords or more accurately textures of chords. He plays the bass the way Keith Moon plays the drums. Keith Moon - Insane. He beat the shit of his kit and was great. Roger Daltry -the face and the voice. Yeah I'm older 46 3/4 but that raw energetic creativity in music is lacking in general today. There's a few out there doing it but most are going the Idol route and making videos before they've honed their live capabilities. Give me a singer songwriter original material band or solo artist any day. Technical musicianship and perfect pitch in the voice may be lacking but it's about the soul baby. End of rant. Have a nice day and I also offer this in advance just in case.... |

I think their best songs are just about as good as a rock and roll band can get, but they were terribly inconsistent and trying too hard to be 'arty' a lot of the time, bless pete for his guitar sound and windmills, damn his rock operas and noodling. Keith Moon was the awesomeness. John was great until the sweet bass runs from my generation turned into song-length noodling. Roger Daltrey is kind of a twit, if only they'd ended up with Rod Stewart or Steve Marriott, they'd have been so much more fantastic, maybe even coming close to the majesty of the Kinks, heh. Bb. |

I'll have 2 of whatever Pete was on during the live performance of Baba O'Reilly (one of the GREATEST SONGS EVER) and We Won't Get Fooled Again (another all-time-greatest song).
Those videos are great. Funny about the whole Mod & The Who thing. I respect and appreciate the Mod sub-culture thing from an anthropological/pop history perspective, but The Who was always a kickass ROCK band by my definition. Probably because that's how they were first seen as through my young eyes in the 70s. Still love 'em, Ringo's kid and all (although NO ONE can replace Keith Moon--no one).
