Wanted to ask this already for some time. My 2004 GT has now 6500 miles on it. When I was close to 6000, I called up Vespa Seattle Service and wanted to schedule an appointment since in the Vespa service booklet 6000 miles would be the next official service.

However Vespa Seattle told me that that had changed and now they recommend coming in the next time with 8000 miles not 6000 miles. I confirmed with the service dude that this would not void the warranty. Has anybody else heard the same??

thanks much,

berndt

You have to admire a dealership that would postpone a service instead of ringing the register!

It might be good to get your oil changed, since I'm assuming your last service was around 4000 miles. I'm in no way a Vespa tech, though, so perhaps I should defer this to the actual professionals.

i'd at least change your oil & filter.
the trans components are probably okay if they were cleaned/inspected/replaced at the 4k mark.

The 2005 owners manual shows 4000 mile intervals for service.

I think that the combination of a filter and synthetic oil make this interval sound reasonable.

Thanks for the input - I'll bring it in for 7000 miles then. 400 more to go 400 more to go.

lets put a little perspective spin on it.
your car holds 4~5 quarts of oil, the filter campacity is roughly 1/2qt and normal operation is between 2800~4200 RPM. generally oil changes are done ever 3000mi

your scooter holds one quart of oil, the filter campacity is roughly 4oz and normal operation is between 4500~7200 RPM.

i've seen the oil that comes out of bikes that have more than 2K between changes. trust me, you don't want that shizz rolling around in your engine. but as we say in the industry: it's your bike man.

i'm not saying, i'm just saying...

I always do the basics checks but as far as the trans and engine components go that's what i'm talking about in terms of service and things to look out for.

thanks!
