After it was mentioned that the exhaust on the vespa was made of stainless (craked exhaust repiars....) I decided I would try to uncover some of that hidden beauty.

Started with 80 grit and worked down to 600 then hit it with some metal polish and finished with a solvent to remove any of the polish. took about an hour. If it turns out not to be stainless I'll know pretty quick I think

I believe it's only the headpipe, and it's titanium I heard. The can (silencer) is jus' plain steel. That's partially the reason for the questionable joint that burns through.

I had sanded the paint off a spot on the center of the can and left it for the last month, so far no rust there. Granted, it's garaged during most nights but it sits outside during the days in the fog, rain, and occasional sun.

so far the polished area is holding up even being parked outside at nights. We will see. Even if it rusts it will just be an excuse for a new exhaust.

It will probably start to really rust in 2-3 weeks. 2 nights isn't really enough of a comparison. And yes, they are only mild steel, and will rust.
