Hi all,

My topbox has finally arrived, and I want to fit it myself.

Can someone post a pic from underneath as to how it has been mounted.

Did a search and could not find anything.

I have been given a black piece of plastic, and a couple of bolts

TIA

Great!

Replying to my own post:

I dug even deeper, and found this thread

GTS top box questions

looks like the same peice of (expensive) plastic I have, but I am still no clearer on how this relates to the slots and bits under the top case.

My kit came with:
the topbox
the black bit of plastic
a nut, bolt, washer, and a t shaped thing with a hole in it - which in some way appears to be used to fasten the whole deal together.

Can anyone let me know if there is another plate, peice of plastic, or screw missing?

Ta

As you can see in the picture there are the two holes in the plastic piece and two holes on the back rail of the rack itself (you will probably have to pry the chrome plastic plugs out). You have to drill the holes through the bottom of the case and insert the bolts through the holes. There should be four distinct places molded into the bottom of the case where you have to drill.

(I hope this is right, it's from memory and I'm about 900 miles from my GTS at the moment!)

A suggestion after fitting a Vespa topcase to my LX 150. Take off the entire stock rack from the scooter and loosely attach the rack in the place where you removed the chrome plastic plugs. That will give the you the play to line up the bolts that go into the place where the plastic "Vespa" plate sits over the tailight.

Hi everyone,

thanks for taking the time to give me you comments. my Top Box is becoming a real pain in the .... rear?

I have had a look at it again, and cannot come up with anything like what has been suggested. there are no pre-moulded/drilled holes other than one in the middle.

Heres some pics of what I have.

Have I been sold a "pup"?
This is the standard bit of black plastic everyone seems to have

This is the only predrilled hole in the thing, no others moulded, implied or suggested

Heres the only fastener provided. it does not align with anything when dropped through the hole of the topbox, when the topbox is sitting on the rack

This is one of the mounts - floating in the ether - the single bolt will not hold the box stable, so it will rattle and eventually crack the plastic!

Ah Grasshopper, you see you must drill your own holes for the GTS!

Cheesy, I know, but the same top box is used for the GT and the GTS (even though the colors are different). You need a 9mm drill (IIRC) and you drill where the molded holes are (easier to see from the bottom.)

Also, you need to pry or take a pair of pliers and remove the faux chrome plugs at the back of your rack.

So you didn't get any directions with your case? I'll see if I still have mine and scan them.

Edit: Actually, looking at your photos, it looks like your case may be for a GT only. I don't see the molded in mounting holes.

Thanks,

Appreciate your comments and assistance - the instructions would most helpful.

It seems I need to go back to the Vespa dealer (for the 300th time) and get the right box!

I'm afraid so - I just went out and double-checked mine, and it doesn't have the two tabs with the inward facing slots. There are a couple of posts that need to get drilled out instead. Plus it looks like you only got the GT hardware. (Installing a box on a GT is braindead simple!)

I'll scan the directions tomorrow, but you should get them with your new box in any case.

I'm pretty sure they gave you the box and hardware for a GT. I think you should check w/ the dealer before drilling into it.
