I would like to use a pickup truck to transport my MP3 400. Has anybody done this? How long should the bed be? It seems like 90% of the pickup trucks for sale nowadays have huge cabs but useless 5' beds. I don't like the idea of leaving the tailgate open and leaving the rear wheel on it. I have not purchased a pickup truck yet. I would like a bit of an extended cab to put luggage in the cab. So far I think an 8ft bed is my only solution.
Good advice is most appreciated. I live in an apartment with limited parking so PLEASE do not suggest a trailer.
thank you too much

The current gen Ford F-250 pickup (in REGULAR CAB form) has a bed that is nearly 100" inches long.

This fits the current gen MP3 perfectly as it is about 90" inches in length.

I have carried a 2007 MP3 500 in the bed of a 1998 Toyota Tacoma extended cab pickup that has a bed that is supposed to be 74.4 inches. I backed it in so it ended up diagonal, with the front wheels turned. I had to put a 2 x 4 under the front wheel closest to the tailgate in order to lift the front fender high enough to clear the tailgate. There was pretty much 0 space to spare but the tailgate did close. It was so tight that I didn't really need tiedowns, but I used them anyway. You need a wide ramp to roll it off.

Thanks for the info. looks like an older S10 Colorado long bed type should work. very limited funds for a vehicle I would use a few times a year.

on another note I recently bought a folding bicycle and strap it to the back of the MP3 and take it down to the trails. combining two passions, riding and riding!!

I finally got the truck. 2008 Ford F150 with 8ft bed. Took the MP3 to Florida. 2200 miles with the MP3 in back. It was great to use the MP3 once I got there. 8 foot Titan ramp that I modified a bit. Rode the MP3 right on and rolled off with no problems.

Finally!

Only criticism is not to use the handlebars as a tie down point. Too easy to break something.

Better choice especially on the older models is to put a hook through the joiner plate that spans between the collar bones. Way more sturdy down there.

Also FYI the rear grab rails are plastic core so don't use those either.
