Took the GL for a run. Starts fine, idles well, flat or downhill roads is OK. First sign of uphill the arse falls out. Stripped and blew out the carb and fitted a new gasket, still the same. I've heard the oldies suffer from air leaks at the casing joint. Cud this be the problem? Will running it with the airbox off, just for testing be detrimental? Cheers.

Wouldn't an air leak cause it to run lean and (up to a point) run every better?

Maybe the choke is stuck?
