If you want to keep the starter motor bolted to the '05 PX case, then you will need to trim some sheet metal near the VIN. If you decide to remove the starter motor, then the '05 engine will slip right into any year P with zero modifications.

Are these frames different at all?

This is a P series, and an LML PX frame that you can still buy new.

The engine area looks the same, except for a slightly raised area on the LML one.

Both are PX type. Top one has the newer lock / main switch. The raised part at the engine bay is for the electric starter...

What Safis said....both of those pics are PX/LML frames. Neither one is a P frame.

I just bolted a P200 engine into a 2007 Stella, no issues at all. I didn't keep the electric start. There really only two nuts and bolts holding the motor in. The front large one that the motor pivots on and the shock bolt. The only issues you may have, which are not hard to overcome, are the wiring maybe a little different. You may have a 5 wire stator in the 2005 and a 7 wire in the 1982.

I see. The metal on the frame is cut a bit higher around the engine?

Notice the difference where the rear shock is. Both are mine. Top is my P and bottom is my T5 (the T5 has basically a PX frame with the extra tail section). So if I wanted an E-Start engine in my P, I would need to cut the frame...

You can really see it there.

Wow. I had no idea the T5 frame looked like that. Piaggio didn't stamp a new frame, just an additional piece with a seam.

Does it have the regular PX tail section underneath it?

Yes, it's exactly the same except it has two holes for a tool to reach the tail light bolts...

The paint looks beautiful!

I had never seen a T5 up close. They were never imported to North America.

I think there's currently about a total of 5-6 T5's in Washington and Oregon? No idea about the rest of the US or Canada though. Back in 2007 i saw a T5 Millenium that showed up to the Amerivespa that was held in Seattle. It a had Canadian plate. I'm guessing the owner brought it over from the UK?

I got to see one up close a couple of weeks back at the TDC Rallye event in Eugene Oregon. I forget the story on it. Crappy pic, but you get the gist...

My bad. I thought he meant a CVT 200. Yeah, on my 67 GT I put in an 05 PX200 crate motor I got from Vader. Put the rest of the parts in, took off the starter and put a plate over it, bolted it in, wired it up. Ran it 3,900 miles in 11 days in 2016.

He was kind enough to toss in a Vaderbuilt Malossi 210 top end that scares me!

Was just talking about him today. Do you know if he made adjustments to the port roof angles? I know he talked about doing it, but can't recall if he actually did.
