I wanted to post a couple pics for anyone that needs to change their own lines. I had original rock hard oil lines that started leaking so figured it was time. The problem is getting to the bottom oil hose locations near the oil pump. After taking the belt cover I still had trouble finding room to replace the hoses and clips so the variator nut needed to come off with my ancient impact powered by my car battery. My next move will be to try to replace the oil pump hose. I'm attaching a few pics in case anyone is a novice like me. Thanks again to MJ Rally for his valuable advice.

Taking oil pump out of the way to do the pump belt
You take the two bottom gold screws off to release the oil pump. I had a tough time but a tip from a friend on the site said to hammer the screw with a screwdriver on to shock it. Got these two off and pulled off the back piece to release the belt. Now will replace and line up that horizontal line to fit into the oil pump to re-install.

Screws
Sorry, I'm not sure what JS standard is. I think they are regular round head machine type screws, attaching a pic. It took me some time to get them out, here's a pic with them at the bottom.

I just did this on my ET2 last weekend. I had the engine out for other work and it made this very easy. The screws are standard Philipps head but tight. I suggest using a good screw driver and tapping the screw driver into the screw head. It was easy peasy from there. I was surprised the hoses weren't cracked because they were stiff and hard. Be sure to let the oil drain down to the pump before attaching the hose and then bleed the pump so that it will then pump the oil back up to the carb. I added some oil to the tank so I could run it and pump the oil to the carb. With the new clear lines I can now see that it's getting oil. While I was there I also changed the belt.

Oil Pump belt
Pink- I did the same with the belt but probably took me 3 times as long. It's tight to get in there. The clear tube definitely helps and thrilled to see the oil pump working after this. I'll rest up for my next project. Snowing in MD now so will be awhile.

I found that pulling the pump gear out and the drive gear out on the crank shaft getting them in place and sliding the back into place made the job easy.
I now have oil at my pump and premix in the tank. When I start it up I need to run a fan with the garage door open to get the smoke out. It's time to fill the tank with just gas so that it won't have as much oil in it. I need to post mine in the project section. |
