Riding my MP3 500 Sport is perfectly legal on my car license.

When I insured with Carole Nash a few years ago I made them well aware that I did NOT have a M/C license. No problem they said.

When the documents came through, it clearly stated that I had a Full Motorcycle Licence. I rang them back and they assured me that their software could not display car license for some reason, they emailed me confirming that they were aware of the situation and that I was definitely covered.

Very lax I know but a few years have passed and I have just renewed with them every year without thinking much about it.

Having renewed a few weeks ago I have just looked through the emailed docs and it still says I have a Full M/C License. Surely they will have sorted this out by now.

Before I ring them to query this, would be interested to know if anyone else is in the same situation. We all know how Insurance Companies liked to get out of paying if they can.

Get their acknowledgement in writing! You'd still win in court (should it ever come to that) anyway - but having it in writing will prevent that ever happening.

Hi same thing with my mrs, she rides her 50cc moped on her grandmothers rite that her full car license covers her because she passed before a certain date even though she never took her test but no Lplates required and can carry a passenger. But her insurance says license full.

If they won't send you an acknowledgement in writing, probably a good idea to call them every renewal time just to confirm. They record the conversations and you can always point to them. I got insurance through Bemoto which was the cheapest by far. Just checked my docs and they do say full car license. Phew! Interestingly, the insurer is AXA - I was declined with AXA with other brokers!

The law in the UK and the EU states that it's fully legal to ride your bike on a car licence. So you are never going to have a problem. What I would do in your position is to get them to "note" the fact you do not have a MC licence in your policy docs notation area. They can do that for just about anything and on their screens it has a place for them to do that.. And it will be clear to everyone you have told them you do not have a MC licence.

I often have an issue with insurers not being able to find my Vespa GTS300ie Settantisimo 70th Anni model. They often only list the Super or Touring models etc and not mine. So they note down the Anniversary model details in the notation area which is I'm assured just as good. It's important because my 70th year model is more expensive with extras and I don't want to lose out should something go wrong one day.
