Poi Dog stopped by and helped me out with some scooter tasks. I'm not supposed to lift anything heavy at the moment so his help was definitely appreciated. Had to do some tweaking on the fork tabs and then mounted the fender, races, etc. and loaded in the fork. Finally sorted the stator and flywheel too. Then of course we had food. Pork, and chicken banh mi from the scooter friendly Saigon Hustle. It wasn't Mattress Ham... but it was still pretty good. Followed it up with fresh donuts from Shipley's for desert. Hat tip to Mark for the assist and heavy lifting!

my favorite part of that pic - other than the glorious red Italian - is the spare work station table on saw horses - that is also now too covered to serve as a work station.
this is usually the point where I have to acknowledge to myself - the as bad as I want to get to the finish line - there is going to have to be some work space reclaimin' before I proceed. (also - because I cant find the hook tool to pull the spring onto my exhaust pipe) carry on! |

By the time I got the VBB across the finish line today, I had two workbenches, a card table, and another small table all completely covered with tools, parts, rags, and stuff that shouldn't have been in the workshop in the first place. Now, I at least have the two tables folded away, but have somehow managed to build a small pyramid of autolube airboxes and covers on one of the workbenches while doing so.

OMG
*exactly this* I have more horizontal workspace than an industrial kitchen, yet STILL have the card table, the plastic folding table and the cast off plywood cutting or Ikea desk top on the trash can as a makeshift. you and the airboxes is me and cranks and top ends. I'm like WTF?!? how, where and why is all this on the bench?!! I'm not working on any of it!! |

You guys crack me up. I'm glad I'm not the only one. EVERY horizontal surface, including the ground, covered with who knows what within minutes of starting a project.
And it only gets better when Chris comes over - ha! Where's one of the five 13mm wrenches that reside right there on that empty hook? And seriously! How many old box exhausts does one need? I still want to visit kajjits house of wares though ![]() |

My garage is a slop shop. And worse than normal right now. It's a wonder we found anything yesterday. The saw horses, AKA: the elevated cooler 2.0 (that doesn't cool) became a clean up and tool collection area as soon as the frame came down for the engine install. I briefly considered repurposing for a Sunday afternoon ham buffet, but that was nixed by the (vegetarian) war department. Haarumph.
May 1 is possible Mike, even with my gimp neck/arm. Will all depend on how many little, bitty parts and associated 12 dollar shipping fees I need in the next week or two. Nice to have it on wheels. |

Wow. First post surgery update…
Still here. Waiting for parts and waiting for more recovery. Chipping away as the neck will let me. (Little bursts of 30 minutes here and there with a few hours on the weekend that then requires 2 days of recuperating. Lolz.) Mark came over Monday and gave a big assist with helping me solder the head set wires. Left to my own devices nothing would have been tinned. Mark doesn't stand for my sloppy, slapdash tomfoolery though and that's good bc the SS deserves all things done proper. Also test fit the vespatronic with upgraded fan today. Like it fine. Onward. ![]() Horn ![]() Shine

Great work! The red is so great. It looks deep and rich, I bet even better in the sun. I'm glad to hear you're feeling better. Little bit at a time. Keep it up!
Tinning the wires is a great step. Worth the effort. I'd be tempted to skip it too...tbh...but Now it must bet done. Dont skimp out. the details will be worth the effort. very nice. CNC Fan looks very nice, thicker but smaller diameter compared to stock. I have vespatronic, but with plastic fan. I wonder the comparison in cooling between the v-tronic fan & stock fan, which is much larger in diameter. |

It didn't grind louvers on the cowl while hand turning the flywheel. That was my big concern. I figure worst case scenario... I may have to use washers to lift the the fan cover a smidge.
This thing should also push much more air than the plastic flywheel. Extra cooling for the cylinder is a big win the way I do math. |
