Hey guys I'm having an issue with my Vespa Piaggio 2006. The scooter will idle and rev up fine and stay running it doesn't cut off. When I have the scooter up on the stand the rear wheel spins when I turn the throttle. However once I put it on the ground and sit on the scooter it will not budge. Does anyone know what could be causing this? any help is greatly appreciated ,thanks.

Greetings:

Need more information. Does the engine lug at low RPM or does it rev to the moon? Carburetion/engine power would be suspect in the former case, and transmission in the latter.

Greetings:

Without an idea of your mechanical knowledge and tool kit, the first thing to do is to watch some videos on removing the belt cover on the left side of the engine. All will be revealed. ScooterWest Robot videos on replacing belt, modifying clutch and/or variator on a Leader 150 engine of your vintage are numerous. Not as many for the 50cc, but there are a few. Which is yours?

Thankyou sir I appreciate it mine is a Vespa Piaggio 2006. So does it sound like it could be more of an issue with the clutch or belt?

Which Vespa Piaggio model is it? They made a few different ones that year. It's probably written on one side or the other.
Most of these end up being fuel or electrical issues. If it's got a carb that's not right, the transition from pilot jet to main can be fine on the stand, but bog or die under load. If it's got a bad connection, the load can be causing separation at the connection. My first guess would be fuel.

When I get home today I'll take a look at the scooter and try to figure out the model and engine size, to determine the engine size will it be written somewhere?

The front wheel isn't the issue...may have a problem, but nothing about why it won't move.

I'm guessing transmission for a starting point. Did you get it used? How many miles does it have?...and more importantly, when was the belt changed, if ever?

Yes, the wheel should spin freely.
What you are experiencing usually means the carb is clogged and the bike is idling on the main jet. Often when carbs need to be cleaned or replaced, the idle circuit and pilot jet get clogged, so people turn up the idle on the carb to make it run, which basically just gives it more gas through the main jet. So it is harder to start and bogs when you put a load on it, because it's getting flooded. On the stand, when you rev it up and then let off the gas, does it settle right down or search for the idle for a while?
Also, make sure the cap is really on the spark plug, if it's a 4 Valve. Sometimes it helps to trim off about two millimeters of the end rubber of the cap to make it

Jorge - it's not bogging down, it's revving very high - see third post.

Service the transmission - belt, rollers, clutch.

I saw that but thought the OP was refering to how it ran while it was on the stand. In my experience, if it's doing this because of the transmission, there is a noise associated with something broken in the clutch.
Based on the issue with the front brake, I suspect the bike has been sitting a while and the OP just acquired it and is trying to get it to work.
