On a SI carb, the air screw is normally turned out 1½ times. Does the same apply to a SHB carb?

And how do you ensure that no air leaks past the felt washer between the carb and the intake manifold? I have "soaked" the washer in grease, but it does not seem to work.

Welcome to the miserable world of smallframe air leaks.

Voodoo put a trick up about sealing the slits in the carb/ receiver with grease on the felt ring.

I took it a step further and found the only way to eliminate air leaks for a bit (not foolproof) is to use some gasket sealer/RTV on every junction/gasket.

I got so tired of the felt ring and did the above, but went one step further and got rid of the felt ring altogether. It has worked well so far for many miles.
