Hi All,

I recently had a front brake lockup at a red light from a dirty master cylinder(clean that little return hole under the metal tab!!) and got tossed from my '08 150 with 1900 miles when I went to take off. I laid the bike down on it's right, exhaust side but almost immediately picked it up and turned it off. I only rode it a handful of times before laying it down and I can't tell if it's in my head but I feel like I now have a slight buzz just off idle. The engine itself seems to idle well, run well, starts right up and no issues when moving fast. It's the moment right before the engine drops to idle or comes off idle, noticeable when moving if I hang around that rpm as well.

You can see it here in this video of a cold start this morning.

I'm pretty mechanically inclined and I checked everything I could externally but I don't know much about CVT scooter transmissions. I say that because I've seen rollers and clutches come into conversation in other somewhat related posts. Does this seem symptomatic of anything that I could check myself? I also see many "mine is always buzzing" comments so maybe it's not a big deal?

Thanks!

Greetings:

Sorry for your mishap. I guess it could've been a lot worse?
You probably checked it, but in case... My S50 recently had similar symptoms - an RPM-dependent Buuzzzz. One of the bolts holding the heat shield on my Techno exhaust had backed out loose. Since yours fell on its right side, seems possible.

Thanks, the heatshield did take a hit but I double checked those screws and even removed it completely to verify it wasn't it. I checked all the headlamp bolts and the 6mm exhaust allen key bolts as well.

I also just checked on center stand/off center stand. No change in behavior. Holding rear brake, no change in behavior.

It's hard to tell from the video but it seems to occur at the frequency the headlight is vibrating at. Are you sure there isn't anything loose inside the headlight? Or maybe something under the front cowling that got disturbed and is now vibrating against the frame?

You might try the old-fashioned trick of putting a funnel in your ear to more specifically determine the direction/source of the sound.

The headlight is a brand new assembly thanks to my crash but because of the way the LXV headlight mounts on a little L bracket with two bolts, I think it is the most visibly susceptible to vibration but you can feel that resonant frequency through the handlebars/brake levers and generally the frame.

I tried using a screwdriver for that trick but maybe it wasn't long enough. I wasn't able to track much down.

I have had several plastic items on the leg shield buzz or vibrate at low RPM. Things like the leg shield lights, the horn cover, the glovebox lid. I located mine by gently rapping on the leg shield with the flesh side of my fist to simulate vibration. If a buzz is found, a short piece of electrical tape, carefully placed, makes a suitable buffer to stop the noise. A rubber band wound around the glovebox catch acts as a bumper to quiet the door from buzzing.

I had everything apart to install the headlamp assembly(dropped a bolt down into the floorboard when the horn cover was off so I had the glovebox out and the floorboard up to get it) so I know I've tigthened all those panel screws. I have checked the license plate bolts and those are tight.

When the 150 is idling on the the center stand, I can see the front wheel visibly oscillating/vibrating. Is that normal?

When I dumped the scoot, the front headlight smashed, the right mirror broke off and the handlebars were crooked. I've straightened the handlebars as described in other posts by holding the front wheel and twisting the bars straight. Maybe something else has come a bit loose in the front suspension/steering?
