Does anyone know if the Malossi 166 kits ever came out with a single ringed version? A Stella guy near me was sold a used 166 kit with a single ringed piston. Sadly the kit is well used and piston rattles inside the cylinder. I told him I'd sell him a Polini 177 I had sitting in my garage and give him some credit for the Malossi 166. I'll hone it and put on the shelf for the next guy needing a kit.

So, did Malossi 166 kits ever come with the single ring (Mark 1 kit maybe?) And question number 2, does it matter if I swap pistons to the 2 ring (Mark 2 version)?

Thanks guys

MHR177 piston should fit. It is single ring.

I know that early and race-y small frame stuff came with a single ring, so I'd assume that a very early 166 would be the same?

I'd be interested to see it, in that the single ring version of a 130 I have is totally different than the 135 piston with duals.

Measured 60.7mm on the piston. Underside of the piston shows CDC BRLY and ASSO-W 2544

Previous owner had to grind off the Malossi cast into the side to get it to fit the electric start flywheel.

I looked on SIPs site and all the 177 pistons are 63mm. Old 166 pistons are 61mm. Anyone got a link to a working single ring piston?

So I've tried the usual domestic and foreign shops for a single ring piston in the 60-61mm size but cant find any. I'm thinking I could go double ring and get by that way unless anyone's got any ideas/ generic piston from someone else????

The transfer and boost ports in the 2 ring piston later malossi 166 kit are nearly identical. The only difference I can see is the two side skirt openings are one big one on mine and a small above a medium one on each side on yours.

I would guess that a 2 ring piston for later malossi 166 kits like mine would work fine, but I'm just guessing.
