I saw a cheap Bajaj for sale, and have always been curious about them.

It's one of the early 2000s ones, that was a semi-original design by Bajaj, but based on the earlier Chetak, which was a Sprint.

They're kind of ugly, and probably will never be classic, so it might be a fun mod project.

Do Piaggio parts just swap out with the Bajaj ones? (like the seat, headset, etc.)

This one appears to need a shifting cross. But it's a four stroke motor. Does it use the same clutch and gearbox as a Vespa?

The 4T clutch is WAY different. In fact the whole tranny is different.

I've seen the 4T seats on a P series and it looks like butt. On the other hand, i've seen Vespa Corsa seats on a 4T and it improved the look.

The cowls don't fit the P series...but they can with a little work and a welder. The 4T cowls on a P series give it more of a street racer look. A 4T glovebox can fit a P series with a little work too. They are MUCH bigger than the Piaggo version. I haven't tried swapping headsets, so i can't say on that. But probably not without some work.

I have a factory service manual for the 4T Chetak, and it has part numbers listed for everything.

I would pass on ever buying a Chetack nowadays. Spare parts are too hard to come by. The most i would spend on a running one is about $400...knowing that it will break someday and it won't be fixable.

Thanks!

Yeah, I was looking for parts, and they're not even easy to find on ebay. And basically there's no documentation.

The Sprint Chetak was made for so long, searching for parts just finds those. and the four-stroke one was just a few years at the end.

Bajaj of America was based in San Francisco, so there are a bunch of them here. But it only existed for a few years.

Barry might still have a bunch of the Bajaj parts hiding away somewhere, but i heard he was trying to get rid of it all?
