There's a long back story to that but here's the short version. Scomadi originally contracted with Hanway, the builder of Royal Alloy scooters, to build Scomadi's scooters. The version I find most colorful is that Hanway was rolling Scomadis out the front door while unauthorized Royal Alloy badged Scomadi scooters were rolled out the back door. A court fight ensued and Scomadi updated their design and moved production to Thailand. Hanway continues to build Royal Alloy scooters for world consumption.

P.S. Are you one of the Hornets?

You got it right. The Year Royal Alloy came out, there was another company hawking exactly the same metal scooter at Eicma. And the guy from Lambretta was in their booth screaming at them.
And like every other scooter ever made in China...

Not your cup of tea? How about a 946? Which is the retail price, by the way.

Very glad to see them back. I'm a Royal Alloy guy myself. Having ridden the new 300 with 21.75hp, I loved it. Nice handling and very nicely finished off. Of course, it's got the Euro 4 Vespa engine in it but with a little more power and torque than when it's in the Vespa. And very good it is to.

Not always. The Japanese copied European designs and made them better. NSU vs. Honda for instance.

If reports are correct Benelli (Qianjiang) is going to utilize a MV authorized copy engine in a future bike. We will have to see how that flys.

Even the Italians of the De Tomaso Group in the 70s (Moto Guzzi - Benelli) copied the Japanese Honda Four but did it badly ... The copied motorcycles were uglier and broke often, if the Japanese copied something (few engines in reality) did it better than copies. Certainly they too produced motorcycles with major defects but they stopped producing them when they ascertained it and in any case filed (and still do) many new patents.
The vitality of the Japanese motor industry today is a tangible sign, it is not in question.
