Obviously I don't want to hurt the plastic/finish. Goo Gone maybe? Ideas?

Subject line says it. I want to remove the lawyer sticker from the rear handlebar cover of my ET2 50. Besides being ugly, that darn thing is about 5 degrees out of square. I figure Tony slapped that one on after a half liter carafe of wine lunch. It bugs me any time I look at the machine.

A hairdryer helps. Warm labels peel Better than cold ones. NOT a heat gun! Don't want to end up with the handlebar cover in a puddle on the floor.

Borrow the SO's hairdrier.
Clean the gum residue with eucalyptus oil or paraffin/kerosene followed by soapy water.. |

Attention to the electronic instrumentation, it would be better to disassemble the piece.
Otherwise you can make a self-adhesive with equal size and cover what is there, i did so on my scooter. ![]()

peanut butter is very common here in the usa...ive always used it to remove stickers....cover the sticker (or residue) with a thin layer...the natural oils from the peanut butter break down the adhesive...and it just wipes away

I had the sticker at the right size made by a friend who has a self-adhesive paper plotter and he produces advertising signs.

OK, I got it off. Here's the ticket.
First, it laughed at the peanut butter. Totally laughed at PB, BWAHAHAHAHA!
What worked: Heated it up with a blow dryer, got an edge up with a plastic scraper (actually a plastic auto trim pry tool, but close enough). Peeled pretty much the whole thing from that corner. This left a bit of nasty residue around the entire perimeter of the sticker, which is ~5"x2-1/2". Silicone spray did some of the residue, but not all. Dug around the detailing shelf in the garage cabinet, and came up with an old looking bottle with the improbable label: "MAXIMUM STRENGTH Automotive WIPE AWAY interior/exterior," which promises "Fast removal of stickers and grease, tree sap, tar, and adhesive." Further, it is "Made with ORANGE EXTRACT Contains no Xylene." OK, this looks promising. Donned my nitrile gloves, got a cotton rag, and whaddaya know!? It took the remaining residue off with just a little elbow grease. SUCCESS! Thanks again to all. |
