I've run into a slight problem, trying to narrow down as to why the scooter won't fire up (see my earlier post "scooter stumble")

I had to buy a new control switch for my Vespa Sprint, as one of the little brass screws didn't tighten very well, and the dark blue wire kept slipping out.

Now, I've bought a new wiring loom because to be honest the wiring has seen better days, having been snipped and trimmed for as long as I've had the scooter, perhaps earlier, but that's going to be sorted when I get the scooter re-sprayed. So future wise, that issue will be sorted.

However, while the new switch has arrived, I just cannot get the wiring to sit tightly in it's little hole, and I dare not try to over tighten the tiny brass screw, just i case I cross-thread it! it's as if the wiring was too thin for the switch!

I've tried to "thicken" the wires by coating them with a thin amount of solder, but that's proving to be a little hit and miss!

Does anyone have any idea's on how to secure the thin wire in those small holes on the switch??

Maybe this could be a total waste of time, but I need to cover all aspects and connections in trying to solve the problem of getting to sprint to start!

Look up "ferrules" and see if that's what you need. I think they may be easier to find in Europe than they are in the US.

Or, could you just replace the screws or put washers under them?

A picture would help. If you're saying the brass screw won't pinch down on the wire when it's tightened, try loosening the screw and inserting the wire further into the hole. If that doesn't work, try striping a little more insulation off the wire and folding it back on itself to double up the gauge.

That's what I'm looking for -bootlace ferrules! They will do just the job!

I was thinking of electrical ferrules that are used with stranded wire. Bootlace ferrules may work too as long as they're metal and not painted (not insulating) and the right size.

Possible sources Digikey or eBay:

This works fine aside from properly soldering with an iron and silver.
