So I finally got to be with my Vespa in AZ, Covid certainly screwed everything up. As the Vespa(2012 300 Super GTS) had sat for a year by itself no trickle charger or anything, but after two days on the trickle charge started right up, but as my tires were the originals and while not very worn(I lived in the midwest so riding was limited) I thought I should replace them as they are old and everything I have read on this blog says after 6 years replace them. So I found a Vespa/motorcycle place in AZ that had good reviews and brought it in for the service it needed, an oil change(as I brought it in I was being lazy about doing it myself) and new tires. So I asked for Michelin City Grips as I have seen many posts on MV that they are excellent tires. So the dealer tells me today that they do not exist anymore but now they have a Michelin City Grip ll, which I ordered. So curious if anyone has any info on those new tires. I assume they should be great as they are Michelins and everyone loved the first version but curious if anyone has any info on the new ones.

thanks

I got City Grip 2s for the same reason as you. Can't tell any difference from the 1s so far.

thanks i figured they would be ok, the only issue is it will take some time to get them....oh well One more issue some people have said that when you get them it takes a while, about 100 miles, to work them in, what do yo think?

Yes new tires need a bit of a heat cycle or three to cook off the process coatings and perform optimally. They can have a greasy feel in a turn when they are new. No offense to member Greasy!

Yeah, you need to take care on the corners until the mould release compound or whatever it is wears off. You can see when it has - it doesn't take long.

There's a Vespa Motorsport video if you wanna see the differences. It's basically the same tire with more rain siping.

I've put more than 8000 miles on mine, across all sorts of terrain: dry and wet, highway and washboard. They've been great for me; but then again, I had no complaints with the originals either. Life seems to be about the same too: just had mine replaced at 5300 miles since the last one flatted on a screw.

Are City Grip 2 tires replacing the original City Grips? I had thought they were an additional model.
