As I was installing my FACO rear rack, and then the GIVI 37L case, I decided a very useful 'tool' would be Light Bright glasses. These are magnifiers glasses with little headlights in the eyeglass frame at the temples. In all your neighborhood Walmart stores!

I love my new 71 piece driver set (dewalt) and I'm proud of myself for figuring out how to coax those rack holes to line up on each side of the body! I won't tell you what I tried first. I could have pulled a muscle!

The Givi mount is still in progress. I think it needs a couple of u-bolts?? The 2nd 'row' of brackets on the underside don't catch the rack rails on both sides. It's only connected in the back of the rack near the seat.

All done except waiting on the windshield. I considered canceling the order and getting a FACO windshield.

Can't do proper work without the proper tool. 8)

I missed the "magnifiers" part on first read. Interesting. Nerd emoticon

I had a pair without magnification for some time....and yes, can be helpful in low light situations. I got a headlamp from my wife a few years ago which is now my go-to dim light illumination.

use U bolts on other cross bars of the rack?
I got 2 brackets on to attach the Givi top case mount to my Faco rear rack. Those are seen in the pictures at the back of the rack. Each end of the bracket manages to cover the distance between 2 rails and tightens down real good. There are 2 more brackets provided in the parts bag that I assume I should use somewhere!

I have a problem with using the brackets because there isn't a 2nd rail for them to catch on. It's like attaching the other side to 'air'.

I'm thinking U bolts. Anyone else solve this another way? Whatever I use can't extend too far through the mounting plate.

You could put a piece of tubing, wooden dowel, or block of wood under the other set of brackets as a "2nd rail".

Go to the home store and get a couple of u-brackets like the kind used to hold conduit to a wall. Get machine screws and nylock nuts just long enough to do the job. Put the machine screws down through the square plastic frame holes with round washers small enough to fit within the molded squares, but too big to fall through, into the u-brackets underneath to straddle the rack crossmember. Alternately, I've used 150lb break strength zip ties (also at the home store) as secondary clamps on difficult rack installations. They've never failed me.

u-brackets sound good
well, that does sound like a good idea. thanks. the u-bolts I've seen look too long and the threads stop too short, if that makes sense.

I've used the brackets with one end over a rail and the other end just pressing on the underside of the mounting plate. The bracket is angled but holds OK. If that feels wrong to you you can easily slip something under the free end of the bracket so it sits sort of level.
