Just bought a 1975 150 Super, I haven`t got it home yet but am I right in thinking it will have 8" wheels ? If it does, would 10" ones fit and is it worthwhile ?
yes I know I should have asked the seller but i have bothered him enough today !

Super has 8" wheels stock. 10" wont fit without making numerous changes, including changing the fork, if you want proper suspension geometry.
There are plenty of 10" models out in the world that dont need converting. Good luck! |

Yes it can be done. But unless you're planning to put a disc brake up front, there's no good reason to change to 10's and IMO lots of good reasons to stay with the original 8's.

It would be unfair to let this thread finish without some support for 10" wheels. In my opinion, from having done the conversion on a Super, the rear looks far better, because it 'fills' out the back end nicely. The Super, like all large frames, is big and fat at the back and the bigger wheel suits it. That said, the 10" wheel on the front looks a bit out of place and disproportionate to the mudguard and I'm not so keen on the aesthetics.
My defence is that it can be done (and undone) properly on a Super, as the column is the same as a 10" Vespa of the same era (Sprint, Rally). It just needs a new hub, dust cover and brake shoes. You don't need to use those weird 8-10 conversion wheel rims. I have kept all the necessary bits to easily convert mine back to 8" any time I like, should the mood take me. |

The 10" conversion on Supers is something that has been done so universally with later restorations (especially when LML engines were easy replacements), the 8" bikes are more and more rare.
They're such classics now, it seems like a tragedy not to keep them original. |

Stick wit 8's, Mates
When I found my Super it had the 10" conversion rims, and we promptly put the 8" wheels on. The ride is totally different with 8's.
If you want 10's get a Rally or a P/PX. My P handles like a tank compared to the Super. But I love the P and both have their merits for sure. Club 8....it is the way. Cheers from Southern Cal broskis |

I also have a 75 Super 150, with 8s. Although, it is the American Market version. I wouldn't change it as I like it original. Not sure what 10s offer to make the investment. Rolling over deeper potholes?

Only reason was that I had some brand new , unused tyres and rims, if they had been a straight swapI could have used them....

My best friend has a 150 super in red, like yours, bench seat with 8" wheels. He put a DR177 kit on his to give it some grunt and adjusted his gearing and its still going strong after many years and zips along nicely. would leave it as is, looks really nice.

Ha, it's the RIP version ... an homage to the great V, who inspired me to keep it clean, clean CLEAN. My lowly scoots obviously pale in comparison to his legendary builds, but he got a kick out of brownie and I'm sure he'd smile seeing it on there.

try it with and without the rear seat plate if you remove the buddy seat and see if you like the look. You can also use the plate to transport stuff.

I like them on 10's personally, I think they look better and roll better on the rough UK streets.
It's hard edges of tarmac and potholes that freak me out the most. The bigger the wheel, the smaller proportionally the bump feels. Plus the handling is "interesting" enough either way. |

tried it with no seat, just the plate and with the seat, decided on with, it comes off with one nut so easy to remove for camping trips if needed

Looks nice... but that black P series fender crest looks out of place. Might as well put the right one on there.
