Hello and thanks for any help you can provide. I own a 2012 Vespa LX50 and really enjoy it. Yesterday is was riding it at top speed (35-37 MPH) and she went completely dead? I pulled over for 2 minutes and she fired right back up with good performance. Today I took her out and drove 2 miles and same thing. Lost power and shut down completely? And would not start. I pushed her home and started with the basics. Spark (plenty), Good compression, plenty of good fuel but I took off the carb and cleaned it anyway. I have not removed the spark plug yet but doing that next. I am reading about CDI's and thinking that might be it? When I try to start her she engages and even sound like she is just about to fire but no luck. Someone told me I could be timing but that doesn't make sense to me? Thanks for any help you can provide!

Your CDI Coil is definitely suspect here.

Read this: https://scooterpartsco.com/vespa/lx-50/lx-50-electrical/cdi-coil-for-vespa-lx-50-piaggio-fly-50-2v-unrestricted

My neighbors LX50 was doing this, new CDI and problem went away.

All thanks. Mine just stopped. I will order a CDI. I assume OEM is the best route? Suggestions? It is great to be able to access this chat! Thanks again!

I have taken the CDI off. Now the confusing part is what replacement part should I use? I am reading a lot about unrestricted CDI and the impact it has on performance. I see a lot of cheap replacement parts out there but they all have a 6 Pin Receiver? You can see from mine that I pulled it only has a 2 Pin?I am seeing the 2 PIn has n Europe but not here? Also learning I have a GY6 motor? Anyway, I think I am going to try to go OEM on the CDI but the cost is 10x? Thoughts? Thanks to all.

If you have a GY6 engine then someone went to a lot of trouble to replace a really fine Piaggio engine with an adequate Chinese engine. Pictures will tell the story, a shot of the engine number at the rear near the gear oil fill.
