Seems like I have a lot of stuff working nice for my scooter routine but one thing that isn't working is my door opener. I wrap it in a small rag to keep it from bouncing around in the front storage compartment but that is a hassle. I've thought about one of those cubby bag things that goes on the door to the storage but it looks like something that will get stolen or break down in the elements.

What do you do?

I add an extra momentary push-button switch with about 6" (15cm) of wire, soldered in parallel to the switch inside the opener. Then stuff the opener in the headset, with the switch mounted in a hole just under the left handlebar.

I press that button when I'm about three houses away coming home - by the time I enter the driveway the garage is open.

Ah yeah! That is a righteous solution! I was getting hung up on the form factor but if I take it apart it is a nice sturdy substrate that could be re-imagined...hmmmmm.

I'm thinking there is a good quality suction cup kind of doo-dad that I can hang it off of inside the front compartment to keep it safe but I haven't found yet.

I used 3M double stick tape and attached the opener inside the glovebox. Not as slick and accessible as JimC but it works for me.

HD Velcro in the glove box.

Also, you can buy miniature ones that fit on your key ring.

No good solution, at all, since the garage door opener isn't weather proof. It sits in my riding jacket. Super interested in what everyone else is doing...

But the main gate has a remote control, I keep it in my jacket pocket and I had the foresight to take it with the big button, so without opening the zip I touch the fabric and with my touch I feel the button and press it.

I have very small fob-style openers on my keychains. This model works very well for my opener model, but eats batteries peculiarly quickly. I find I replace them every six months regardless of usage frequency, though the batteries are not hard or expensive to replace.

During the winter/cold weather months, I keep it in the chest pouch of the Thermoscud. I can reach up with my left hand and press the button through the Thermoscud to open/close the door.

During the summer/warm weather months, I put it in the center "pocket" of the glove box. I've gotten good at popping the glove box open and reaching in to press the button while coming down the street to my driveway. Depending on what summer jacket I use, I also will keep it in a chest pocket, and access it the same way I access it during the winter.

I, too, have an app that will open the garage door, but the delay between when I press Open and when the door actually opens is exceedingly long. I either have to start the open sequence from several blocks away, or sit in the driveway and wait. At that point, I might as well hop off and open it with the keypad next to the door.

I've read somewhere about wiring the remote button through a relay to the high beam headlight. Then you can flip the brights on to open the door. I guess it would work if you don't ride with the high beams too often and run down the remote battery.

Garage Door Opener
I expect those that ride more often have sought out a solution that works.
I usually forget the damn thing and beep the horn signaling my blushing bride
to hit the opener from inside the garage.

Otherwise, I keep the opener in the left front small compartment on the
Burgman 400 and under the seat on the GTS300. I have not been successful hitting the opener while riding. I routinely dismount and hit the opener.

Automatic garage door openers are a great convenience. I expect some of our
ModernVespa friends overseas chuckle about this. I remember the Brits on
the NATO staff I was on in the US Navy laughing about my having an electric tooth brush. They would really get a kick out of this and ask if you Yanks
also had electric butt wipers.

Yup OK I like velcro, that is a good solution. Not sure why I didn't think of it but I am glad I asked.

I did rig up a suction cup that I realized I had but the remote was going to get beat up and bounce around a lot. I had the cup left over from replacing an iPhone battery, it came in the kit.

I also use a mini remote fob that goes on my keychain. It has 3 buttons so I can open both my gate and garage door.

That is a very expensive and one-off garage opener. Highly not recommend for anyone else.

My LX150 and my Goldwing 1800 both stayed in the garage when I wasn't riding. I used silicone sealer to stick them right on the handlebar cover. Never had a problem.

My garage has wi-fi so I was opening the app while I was in front of my house, but it proved too annoying esp when I had gloves that weren't touch sensitive. So I gave in and bought a keychain garage opener and it was worth every penny. Click while I'm on the street and just ride on.

Yeah, that's one of the issues I ran into. My winter gloves are not touch screen compatible, so I'd have to remove them, then wait for the message to go from the app, through the myQ server, and back to my house in order for it to open/close. And the system delays the closing function to warn the user so that the door opening area is clear. I have a keypad on the garage door frame, and it'd be easier to park the bike and manually close it.

I did a variation on Touchton's idea.
I got a plastic electronics box, pulled the guts from an opener, soldered a switch in, mounted it on the box, drilled a couple of holes in the box, stuck some bolts through with rubber grommets, and mounted it under the headset in the windshield mounting holes.

Did it Not Myself
I always loved everybody's diy methods, and I learned wth a 'momentary' switch is. But in the end, I went with Flash2Pass. Originally my driveway was on a weird hill + angle. I was a new rider and didn't want to take my hands off the grips until I was on the flat garage floor.

I felt guilty about the price, but 12 years later I'm still using it. That has brought the price per open to virtually free. I've transferred it between scooters and between garages. So those parts are easy. I'm not sure about the room in later model scoots - I hear they are tight. But my 2012 had plenty of room for both that and a Stebel horn.

Kim
the diy wannabe
(but hey, I did install the Flash2Pass in my scoot and in my garage. Does that count?)

Left jeans pocket, pressing the button through the fabric.

When my phone is also in that pocket, the remote's range is severely compromised.

I've put it in a jacket pocket, but this can get awkward on days when it gets hotter while I'm out and put the jacket in the tailbag or under the seat (and forget to take the remote out of the jacket pocket...)

I'd consider wiring it into the bike, but I'd need to get more remotes to cover my "vehicle fleet"... LOL

I still think this is the best approach. Little outright expense, however the long term costs can be a bit steep....

I keep it in the left pocket of my jacket. In the summer I use a mesh jacket so it's there. Mostly just stop at the foot of the driveway, push the button through the fabric, up goes the door, in goes me and the scooter. Never thought it was an issue.

thanks to a poster above, I went looking for a keyfob garage door opener and came away with this $15 jobber from Genie

https://store.geniecompany.com/products/genie-gl2t-bx-2-button-led-flashlight-remote?variant=32086415278195&currency=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&cmp_id=1671229670&adg_id=64421377363&kwd=&device=c&gclid=CjwKCAjw9MuCBhBUEiwAbDZ-7p1KY26b-NdPC5TFpqwjgqk6suJT-pKSHwo9mcrqw7xTwKzgxRt6whoCm04QAvD_BwE

So far, it's been a gamechanger. No need to fumble around in jacket pocket, open glove compartment, ad nausea. Thanks everyone!
