I just bought a 2011 GTS 300 and I am loving it so far. However, I have a weird parking situation. I do not have a garage but I have an uncovered two car parking slip in front my house. It is sloped quite uphill and it is also a slopes a little from left to right. It requires a significant effort to disengage the center stand while parked uphill. Am I risking damage to the steering column by putting that much force into it? Would angling a side stand into the slope be a better parking option for a parking situation that is so crooked? Any parking advice appreciated

Are you on our off the bike when taking it off the stand?

I'm straddling the floorboards like I stood up at a red light.

that's a common method that I see most people do.

I do it different. I stand to the left side, place my left hand on the left handle bar grip with fingers ready on the rear brake and my right hand on the rear corner of the grab bar, tense my right arm, and then throw my body weight forward.

Also sometimes stick a foot directly in front of the center stand so it doesn't slide - need this when parked on slippery surfaces like polished concrete or soft grass etc.

I've got two variations of the above, experiment a bit and see if it works for you

I'm skinny and weight 67kg so strength is not needed. it's all about the movement of body weight to rock it off the stand

worth a try - practice on level ground of course

My drive is a slope also. The PX is lighter so I can straddle and rock it off its stand but I do the same as steelbytes on the GTS and stand to the side of it and make sure I hit the back break as I throw it forward.

Straddling and taking the GTS 300 off the center stand isn't efficient use of energy. As for parking on the slope, the side stand if it is leaning into the slope maybe an effective way to park it. But generally it isn't considered a 100% stable solution. If you are parking on the center stand with the vespa turned going uphill, putting it on the stand is gravity fed & probably is very easy. When taking it off try the method described i.e. standing on the left side and pull it off.
It is efficient use of energy, though if you are worried once it comes of the stand you may drop it off to the other side, you may want to try this on a flat surface and feel the weight of the Vespa just holding it from the left side. I would even suggest pushing it around to get used to the weight and how you get to manage that balance. For many people it is a pleasant surprise to find out that the Vespa 300 has some heft to it.

My scooter also has a parking brake ...
Keep one hand ready on the brake when parking on a slope using the side stand and get off by locking the lever with a rubber band.

Greetings:

To the OP's original question: No I do not believe it's possible to damage the bars or steering assembly just pushing on it.

If your scoot has an auto-retracting side stand, it's easily modified - I did mine in about 20 mins using directions found here on MV. I think there is a good video on Youtube detailing this as well. This will mitigate the greatest risk of using the side stand.

I keep a flat steel electrical junction box cover in the pet carrier or glovebox to place under the side stand when parking on soft ground. I have a long piece of string attached to it so I can pull it up after I'm on the scoot if needed. A crushed can or plastic puck could also be used.
