You are in a great location to visit The Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, North Wales and Scotland. All of which I visited this year but had to endure the dreaded M5 motorway to all but North Wales.

I had a GTS300 back in 2011 with a very tall face windshield. I am 5'10" and the screen covered almost my helmet. If you have a chance try the tall windshield, it makes the ride super smooth and quiet. Cool pictures by the way.

Our street signs are standardized and somewhat boring. I really like that
last photo. My ancestors came from England. I believe there is also a
Copeland Castle.

Old English graveyards - spooky.

Do you know the legendary tale of the "Dead Ringer" from English Graveyards?

This may not be accurate - but this is the tale the way I have heard it explained.

Pewter mugs replaced wood in the mid 17th century. Drinking wine in these
pewter mugs produced a chemical reaction that caused a paralysis in some
individuals. There would be undetectable breath or heart beat. Thinking the
individual was dead, they would prepare for a funeral - only to find the person
sitting up and walking away during the ceremony - scared the heck out of
everyone.

There was so much concern, they would bury individuals with a string tied to
their hand in the coffin leading up out of the ground to a bell. If they heard the
bell ringing, they would dig the fellow up.

The phrase, "you are a dead ringer for someone" meant you looked just like
them - or you are the same person they dug up.

Two other folk phrase originate from the Dead Ringer.

1. Graveyard Shift. They would employ someone to spend nights in the
graveyard to listen for the bells ringing. This became associated with the night shift at factories.

2. Smoke the Mirror. Early medicine did not have a clear method of determining if
someone was actually dead. The would feel for a pulse and place a mirror by the
mouth. If the mirror was smoked the individual was breathing. So, in a vulgar
way, if you wanted just anyone for the job you would request just anyone who
could "Smoke the Mirror".

So much for my old english tales.

There are just too many remarkable, cool, and great photos in this thread to be able to pick a favourite - but looking at them is both fun, inspiring, and makes a person want to metaphorically saddle up their own Vespa and head out to some untravelled highway or byway.
