Cleaned the jets on the carburetor and everything looked in order. I have been trying to start it with a full battery charge. However, it simply will not catch, I can smell fuel so I assume the jets are clear now. Thanks for any help.

You need 3 things, fuel, spark and compression. Compression at 450 miles probably isn't the issue, you think you have fuel so start with spark then check that the plug is wet. No spark could be many things. If you do have spark a little starter fluid sprayed in the air box should get it going.
