Some more pictures of the process, I also found out that it pays to use the old screws during the fitting process, as you're prone to buggering up the heads while trying to get the screws in.
Good to keep the original screws. The nice new shiny reproduction ones are prone to have their heads snap right off leaving a nice threaded piece of screw sitting in there to deal with.
Yeah, it seems as if all the repro screws are the wrong design as well, the original ones are domed countersunk head, while the reproductions are normal flat headed countersunk screws.

I just ordered two of those, and was disappointed that they are just screws from the hardware store.

Your looking for a oval head machine screw.

Not quite, the stock ones are wood/sheet metal thread, not machine thread. I have a local equivalent to McMaster-Carr, so I'll see if they can tell me the correct screw dimension, if so I'll post it here in case somebody else needs to locate new screws themselves.

I have been using Accu here in the UK. Top quality, better than OEM, A4 marine or A2 stainless, and a wide variety of specifications. For example, this is the raised/oval head, countersunk self tapping screw with a Phillips/cross head, but they also do slotted, depending on the requirement.
