Modern Vespa

Hi all,

Been lurking for a bit but wanted to say hello from Brooklyn, find out what the Vespa scene here is like now that I have my own 2012 GTS. Feel like I've been seeing a lot of Vespas out on the street once I started riding one.

Have to learn all the maintenance things. (And remembering to take the key out of the ignition.) So far just added the Givi (thinking about trying to paint it) and the backrest but always looking for more things I can mess around with.

The Givi 37L I have allows for a swap of the top cover - the "Burgman Blue" is a great match for the Vespa blue...

Welcome fellow Brooklynite. Safe travels navigating the crappy roads in our lovely city. There are a few things you can do besides the maintenance stuff.
I'd say there are somethings for aesthetics possibly like LED turn signals.
Depending on your skill level and comfort around getting down and dirty(if necessary) there are a few things that you could do for performance upgrades.
Oil/coolant/sparkplug changes are routine maintenance that if you did yourself you could do it more often than required, consumables are relatively cheap.
I think you are going to enjoy your Vespa this spring/summer & get in the groove.

There is an on and off again vespa group that seems to be off again currently. They were posting quite a bit last summer on instagram in middle of pandemic about getting rides going again but I dont know if they actually did.

That account was @vespaclubnyc on instagram. Last post in October saying postponed events till pandemic over.

My two cents on the topcase....I think it really looks pretty good in black with your scooter color. I might give it some thought before painting it unless you enjoy projects.....

Welcome! Ex-NYer here (Manhattan-born, Brooklynite until about seven years ago). Still roll into Gotham almost weekly for tech gigs, so you might actually catch me (or Baba12...we've gotten together once before) in and around Brooklyn. Nice score on that GTS!

Greetings from the Midwest, where you are within 3 days ride from anywhere in the country, almost! I have seen none of the east yet but I know there are beautiful spots. Congratulations on the scooter. Some of us a partial to our blu (blu energia) scooters! I have a 37L GIVI on mine and a Corbin seat. My windshield is on a slow boat from Italy. I should never have ordered through the dealership! Can't cancel, or so they say. I have some decal designs that I am getting done here in town. Turn the bike off with the key, not the kill-switch, as this helps to remember to take the key out.

The NYC Vespa Club did get itself back together again and is riding this coming Saturday at 9:30am. They are burdened, for reasons I don't know, with vestiges of the former club using similar but defunct names, websites, Instagram handles, and out-of-date/incorrect information. Nice crowd, all ages, all different walks of life, a cool range of scooters always seems to show up. And a very authentic-feeling overrepresentation of Italians, which I intend as a compliment.

I was just going to mention the NYCVespa Club. There's a ride this Saturday to the Cloisters. A few rides already scheduled. RobDee is on here, he's one of the guys running it. It's a good time. I know he plans to run a clinic to on how to maintain the Vespa.
