Hi all,
New to forum and Vespas.

Am thinking about purchasing my first vespa and was wondering if there are any further ideas on the origins of (piaggio symbol)VLB1*0xxxxxx* Vin Numbers?

Surely they aren't all bodges?

This particular Scoot has been in Australia for many years with current owner, and many before that aparently.

Did Danmotor make Sprint Veloce's in Denmark and ship them to Indonesia for assembly?? IT seems from the numbers it is a '78 model. I don't have the engine number for reference.

Stamps look clear and the scoot does NOT appear to be full of bog etc. There are paint chips with metal showing through.

Is there any information on Danmotor's Vin numbers etc ? I couldn't see any online when googling.

Thank you for any help.

You may want to post pictures of the vespa, frame number area and engine number area. Many of us here can tell whether it's bodge, Restamp or original.

Vin number
Were ALL of the Sprint and Sprint V vin numbers under the glove box?
This one appears to be in the engine side....

The bike seems to be very solid, with no body filler, no obvious signs of bodge etc. Just, I'm a bit worried about resale value with it missing the 'T'.

Were any Sprint V's manufactureed outside of Italy?

Looks like a re-punched VIN, probably Indonesian import. They're usually the ones missing the T, god knows why...

I briefly owned an Indo Sprint V that was also missing the "T" (least of its problems...). Never got to the bottom of why the T was missing but pretty sure it is specific to Indo (DM) frames and doubt it is a re-stamping issue. My guess is it was frames actually made by DM rather than the CKD frames from Italy that were also used in Indo.

Hmmm - maybe that is a restamp? Or some other clue of origin. Just realized the location (sorry it's first thing in the morning) Frame (not VIN) numbers that I have seen missing the T were under the tool box cowl like the rest. That location is very odd. As far as I know the only frame number found there is on Douglas (UK) bikes and found on a riveted piece of aluminum - with three letters followed by 5 numbers.

Ahh still waking up. The Douglas frame number seem to be: 5## ***** where the # are letters and * numbers.

Location does look odd...

But, Little piaggio clover thingy left of the V and the lack of the T makes me think Dan Motors.

Brother Ebeth could probably confirm.

Thank you all,

Its odd that there are no records available on these types of frames and numbers.

The bike has been in Australia many years, and current owner has had for more than 10. Previous to that in australia for many more aparently.

A few other things are odd, like incorrect 'Vespa badge' , but that might be likely if it is DM.

Thank you again...

Not really - no computers/electronic database and heaps of licensees/countries involved so exactly who was doing what has been lost in time. Lots of countries had vehicle import restrictions to protect local manufacturing- so add to the mix CKD (complete knock down) builds. And then local registration rules and processes. And then these all changed over time.

Let us know if you ever figure it out... surely the Aus rego database has history of importation?

besides that stamping looking entirely faked out, the cowl pin location looks like a hammered asshole. so what's up with the rest of it?

i'll flip a coin and say it's all junk.
