Hello All I am interested in getting a vespa with a more classic look and found this one on sale in my town. I cant find any close resembling pricing for such a model as its an Allstate Sears vespa from 1964 150cc with 1113 miles on it . I looked on your forum and did not find much info regarding this models only that they made a lot of them for the US market.

I would like to run this bike by you and see if its worth the investment for the price that the owner is asking. I feel that being a Allstate the price is much lower than a Piaggio branded vespa.

Photos bellow. the owner is asking 3k for it

It looks cool for sure, and well maintained.
As for the price the basics are simple, the price is the price. If the seller wants $3k & has it sitting for a while then they are going to wait for a buyer who accepts that asking price. With such items two things are important to note, liquidity i.e. availability of such a model in the market and where you are located matter.
If you like it, it checks of all the things you care about and you want it then you buy it, if not wait it out and see if you find something similar for lesser value.
Generally I do believe Vespa's hold their value over time even the modern vespa's.
I am sure there are folks on the forum who would chime in about if it is too high a price or not.

Hello and welcome to the site. Sorry can't help you with vintage pricing but lots of folks here can. I just want to let you know that your best bet is to post this question over in the not so modern portion of the site. A lot of the members there do not come over to the general site and vice-versa. They really know their stuff and can also tell you if it looks all original parts etc. Beautiful scoot BTW!

I owned and restored a 1964 Allstate. First off this Scoot was painted over. All the 1964's were Red. Second - the Cowls are not original. Allstates had no chrome trim. Third, the front fork is not original either. Allstates only had a spring, not a spring and a shock absorber. They had no front shock out of the factory. I also converted mine to a fork with a shock. many do. The All state was a very simple budget model sold through Sears for around $8-900 - It looks like a combo of 2 different models to me. Also that front fender is wrong too.

I remember the Sears Allstate version selling for $329. It was likely a 90cc.
I miss the good old days.

what a beauty!
If the price is only a little more than you would want to pay and you would regret it if you didn't buy it, I'd go for it. If it's outrageously priced, maybe the seller will come to his or her senses. Good luck.

I would avoid this for 3k. Very poorly done restoration. Much better Allstate's out there for less money.

Pop rivets on the Sears plate: yuck. you know the rest of it ain't going to be good either.

+1 on that. I would also add the Vespas are going up in price all the time. Your focus should be on an original or quality restoration... Originals are always better. I recently paid $2800 for a P 200 and I did not want to pay that, but I realized an all original complete bike was going to be harder and harder to find at a lower price so I bit the bullet and got it. I have no regrets

So if the model has a P200 engine what does it make this bike. Or is it a Frankenstein!

I was looking through old photos and could not find a compatible photo representation of an Allstate with the parts this bike has. Can it be that this scooter is actually a regular vespa with a allstate logo on it.

It's probably an Allstate.

man, just wait for a better, original paint to pop up. this thing is not worth it.

Welcome...

Looks like a P series engine or an LML engine?
Front end looks bit better than the OG pogo stick too.
(Some of the accessories give me a bit of a bodgy feeling... but then I'm a purist snob.)

What are the engine specs? Where/who did the motor swap?
Seems pricy for a repainted Allstate with random parts, but maybe that's a Johnny Kick Ass P200 motor with upgrades and big box pipe?

Not enough info to give you a thumbs up or a thumbs down yet.

More info needed please.

It's not even a restoration attempt. That color alone wreaks of trouble, as well as the seating, legshield trim (Allstates didn't have that), etc, etc..

A restoration would look like this:

Wow, Vietnamese Allstate.... When will they stop?

So many wrongs on that one.
This is what you want to find for that money, assuming 100% mechanically/electrically restored. OG paint, all blemishes present for inspection.

man, there's just like a bunch wrong with this... the ticky-tacky trim, the SEA vibe, those seats, WTF is that fork, the color, all kinds of just wacky chrome goo-gahs all over it.

the whole thing screams very amateur resto or a SEA bike that's been gussied up to look what it is not.

maybe at a grand, but only because of the P2 motor. other than that, pass.

there's much better out there for less that's actually decent and done right.

Everything about this says "cheap southeast Asian restoration." The custom spare tire cover is always one of the giveaways. Pass.
